The guy that hunts a property close to me said he has seen a few that have dropped. Like you said couple more weeks should be good. I pulled these pics yesterday. Have not seen a shed buck yet.
Yeah after I got the pic of my target bucks with one side then dropped the other, I looked all over. It was sunny yesterday and I hate shed hunting on sunny days. lol I know they have to be in the area where my camera is cause he had one side and a couple hours late he came back threw without the other side. I found one side of his last year in the bedding area where he beds frequently but I looked yesterday and there was a lot of beds but no sheds. lol I'll wait another week or two then hit it hard.
State of Utah shut down all shed hunting till further notice, don't want animals harassed till spring warm-up.
Just looked that up to see if you were messing around, that’s pretty wild. I hope people don’t push it and try to go still to get an “edge” on others.
Question for you guys. I usually don't pick up most dead heads, unless they are decent buck. I picked up the one from yesterday. I will usually boil them to clean them up and I just put dawn dish soap in the water. So I decided to try something different, have heard many people say they don't this way. I used Oxi-clean. I put a good amount in the water and started the slow boil. I pulled the head out after a couple hours and it was way whiter then normal. So I thought this was great. It had a little spot on back of head I wanted to boil a little more. 30 minutes later I come back and pull it out. About 75 percent of the skull just fell apart. Just turned to mush. I completely ruined the skull. Luckily the antlers were OK. Anyone every do this? Have any pointers? From now on I will stick with the dawn dish soap. Never had a problem with that. That’s crazy, never saw that b4. I have done close to 100 skulls and only use dawn and 20 mule team borax in the boil. To whiten I just brush on volume 40 hair dye cream peroxide from a salon. Works like a charm. That’s a nice find.
That's basically what I've always done and never had a problem. I just heard of people using Oxi-clean and having great results. So good thing I tried it on a deadhead. Would have been pissed if it was a buck I shot or worse if it was a buddies. At least I know now and won't do it again. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Have you tried the Quick white powder mixed with 40 volume? That's what I do. Mix it and make a paste. Then spread over entire skull, then I just hang over the wood stove for the night. The heat activates it and it really whiten up nice. Then in morning just rinse off with water. If I want pure white, I will do it again. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Nope never heard of it, I’ll check it out. Here’s one I just did last week for my buddy. Weirdest deer I ever saw, I got it on film opening day of archery haha.
This one had a bum leg so I’m assuming that had somthing to do with it. His buddy had a a pic of it 2.5 miles away
I have one that is a lopsided rack. It was a old buck that had a bad leg. Looked like it was hit by a car and survived it. That leg never healed up and was like jello. Also one year I got pics of a buck with 3 legs. He had a 8 pt rack, but one side grew straight down around his head. Almost looked like he had a face mask. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
