They both had a handful of opportunities. They both got to draw back on a deer. My one granddaughter while drawing back accidentally hit the trigger on her release and her arrow went about 4 feet. My other granddaughter shot at a deer and she nailed a stick. I have a picture. I will post it.

Curious, what do you do with velvet antlers if not having them preserved? Do you let the velvet dry and scrape off or will it remain attached in some fashion naturally?

I'll never have the chance at such, beyond a freak antlered doe or something, here in IL. So have never really researched it.

I just freeze mine for a few days. The velvet stays on. The gentleman that does my European mounts does a good job of being careful and not rubbing the velvet off. I have a little four-point in the velvet on it. I’ll send a picture to you.

Interesting, congrats on this years kill.

I can't even imagine the urgency/time from kill it would take during the month of August to recover and get cooled.

It’s a little cooler at 9800 feet. It was really wet week this last week. Our highs up there were only in the mid-60s and low in the 40s. Normally that’s not the case. You want to get them skinned as quick as possible. When you quarter them, it helps cool them down. But you don’t wanna let your meat sit for long. Or it will spoil.

Didn't even notice Utah, was thinking more mid section of the country and 80's/90's temps.

That elevation makes a huge difference. Contrast forecasted temps in 2 weeks from my home town and the town (lower elevation) nearest I'll be hunting...

Agreed… they’re like the Michael brown of the tick world. They look innocuous right up until the point that they attack but once they do you’re gonna be dealing with the aftermath for a long ass time.

I want to take a minute and clarify a rule in the contest and emphasize the importance of getting your required two different photos with the buck, the bow and you in the pics for entry on the Official Scorecard. The rules read:

We had an instance last season where someone in the contest killed a buck but failed to get pictures of the buck. This not only resulted in the buck not being counted towards the team total (of course), but also prevented him from entering another buck killed later. ONLY the first buck you kill can be entered, so make sure you don't make the mistake of not getting TWO good pics that have you, the bow and the buck in them.
