Our tomato plants are nearing 6 feet tall. But we have had very few ripe ones so far.

Squash plants are going gang busters! Have zucchini coming out of our ears and that is after 1 of the 2 plants dies.

Anyone know why the inside of a broccoli plant stem turns brown and stinky?

Basically. If you see white moths flying around your veggies have worms.

It could also be bacteria soft rot...always cut your heads on an angle.
Fees this thing....anyways a good thing us a mix of baking soda in water and pour or spray around plants...4-5 tsp per gallon. It's an anti fungal and helps with some worms.

So getting up in the wee hours of the morning treking out in damp weather to sit in cool/cold temps for hours on end will be a vacation after this canning season...
Today is home made ketchup...it smells so dang good! Used an 18qt. Electric roaster filled to the brim to reduce the tomatoes. Started it yesterday afternoon. Now I'm in a big pot on the stove reducing it to canning thickness..
This winter our burgers will have home made dill relish with home made ketchup...Ok I'll admit, my hot dogs too...eeewwww mustard on hot dogs
Yesterday was more beans and I picked 7 cabbage, froze 7lbs and 3went into cold store. The last 3 will go in freezer as well. I still have kraut from least year.
2 pounds of romain cleaned and put in fridge, made great chef salad for dinner last night. This started so late but has been a very successful garden season...we our finally getting some great eggplant as well.

When we cut the head off, the stem is already brown and stinky even if the head appears OK.

There are times the head dies or turns brown as well.

Sounds like a bacteria problem then. Try cutting stem length wise . If you have worms/ grub he'll be in there.

Wow just got ketchup jars canned. Nice and thick. So all jars sealed, I have twelve 1/4pints, 8 pints and 1 quart(which I'll freeze in silicone molds and keep in a vac seal bag. I ran out of space in canner I did the tiny 1/4 pints because it only store opened 2 wks in frig. We do not use that much of it. I will have ketchup for a few years ....lol.
I know one thing....it will make the best shrimp sauce and home made BBQ sauce. Got last of picked cabbage finished as well..beans next....beans in canned...
BY God I just may be able to leave the house tomorrow!

Did the stewed tomatoes today but I learned a valuable lesson from my daughter, cut the tomatoes in half remove the core and broil for 7 minutes, much easier and cleaner than blanching and ice water. Also apple butter today simmering down, salsa tomorrow.

Y'all are so ambitious. Only things I do is corn, applesauce, apple crisp and strawberry jelly.

Guess it's a good thing I hate tomatoes or I'd have no free time at all.

Tomatoes canned, and poppers in freezer. The last few days of wet and fog will be the quick end to garden. Pumpkins were getting huge and new zucchini and cukes were getting ready to flower. This weather I'm sure will hit all of them with mill dew and the slugs are crazy drizzle and fog's so thick I can't see 50 yards into woods.
    Aaahhhh...good day to iron.

The garden is trying to kill me. It won't stop growing , even wit plants dying!. The kitchen pic is what I picked earlier. The rest are what's still in the garden. We are clearing more shelves now to make room. So many pumpkins and butternut. Eggplant just started. Sweet and hot peppers are as well more broccoli coming will pick beets and greens next week. The corn will be giving me enough to can. The beans in bucket are big, picked so production doesn't stop, and will be hot dilly beans

Sorry so many pics it's a huge garden...lol
