My boys actually caught the turtle a couple of months ago. It must have bred right before they caught it. They put it in one of our garden beds yesterday afternoon while cleaning the cage. The turtle laid four eggs so in sometime in about two months we will be announcing the birth of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael.
I have more tomatoes turning red, kinda makes me sad. My Mom would have wanted me to bring her tomatoes, she loved them. I will think of her every time I pick them.
The garden s just blowing up ! I'm actually behind already, just put my first stuff in freezer, peas and beans. Beans are coming so fast from spring planting I should be getting enough to can this week. The fall beans are up 8 inches for Bush and just climbing for poles. All of the winter squash now have fruit the pumpkins are just vining now. Lettuce is just ridiculous picking a pound a day. Okra setting flowers ,summer squash will bury me soon. Hot peppers loaded. Sweet peppers have yet to fully recover from June's cold spell but setting fruit. Cukes OMG! I made a gallon of refrigerator spicy dill slices today . Broccoli has been best ever in years. Beets are finally growing great ,eggplant is flowering and carrots are getting big. Collards are doing great and the sweet corn is getting tall. I'm still getting strawberries and Rhubarb and will pull red potatoes this week. .perfect timing to have a great garden for sure!
My first official canning started ..dill relish. Man it was good before it got canned ...we use a lot of it so those are pints.
I have been getting potatoes from the daughters garden, if you have not made smashed potatoes do yourself a favor and try them.
I actually just pulled my first reds out of their tower yesterday. Alas these are hubby only. Potatoes have not been in my life for a few years now. He loves them especially the ones I grow.
Well fighting blight big time but that's why I plant so man tomato plants. I did a lot of freezing today and my first tray of poppers are in the oven. Fall garden is looking great.
Not from my garden but I stopped by the farmers market yesterday and bought 4 dozen ears of sweet corn to freeze. Not much better than sweet corn in the middle of winter. I might need to do that once more before winter.
I have a bounty of tomatoes decided I want to can some stewed tomatoes anybody have a good recipe. I will use wide mouth jars whole tomatoes will fit ( I think)
These up and down heat waves have been killing our garden this year. Every time we start to get stuff growing, a heat wave spikes and kills of the buds before they produce anything.
AFTER 8 WEEKS, $140 IN SUPPLIES, AND DAILY WATERING...... WE ARE ONLY 2 WEEKS AWAY FROM ENJOYING A $.25 VEGETABLE FROM OUR GARDEN.

All prepped in frig. and ready for canning and freezing tomorrow. So far : Pickles Relish Zucchini bread Zucchini patties Garlic Red and sweet onions Broccoli Carrots Beans Peas Potatoes All this has been put up for the year.
I joke. We've enjoyed peas, green beans, carrots, squash, cucumbers, corn, and tomatoes. With many hours of relaxation, pulling weeds!
2 pm and first time I've sat since 7am. Got a lot done though. Canned beans, carrots and made two loaves of zucchini bread, one to freeze. Shredded countless numbers of zucchini to make the patties tomorrow, blanched and froze beet greens. Cut onions to add to the chopped peppers and tomato for fermented salsa. My kitchen is 85°, I'm hot and tired. Now I can do my ironing...kill me now...LOL.. AAhhhhh I can't complain I managed to get 2 loads of laundry done in between prep work so that's done.hahaha.
