I made it up to the property to clear a couple access trails. All the clover looks really good, except it needs to be mowed badly but I probably won’t unless we get some rain. The oats mix to protect the clover is still doing well also. Also I think the IMOX I sprayed on June 2 seems to be working a little bit. Pumpkins coming up nice.
I have had to tote water to them though which is hard work.

I planted Monday and Tuesday. Upper beans are just popping good, lower beans I planted Tueday have their first leaves and the corn and sorghum are popping.. Now made it pretty well through first hurdle, here comes the second. Birds yanking out corn plants and everything snapping off and eating beans. So tomorrow I load up the 4 gallon back pack sprayer with bug killer and a sticker. And walk everything. If the smell doesn't deter them the taste should. I'll have caterpillar, slug and all other bug protection for a while. Besides Japanese beetles will be making a showing soon. When they find the gypse and tent caterpillars beat them to it theyll be hitting everything with green.

Not so much about my management but the farmer next door. I actually don't get this,I know it's for silage. He finally did a first cut on that clover field yesterday. It had grown over 4 ft and went through many many rounds of weed seed all invasive. I mention that because he mentioned how bad the weed seed bed in that field is...Well duh!'
Any who that cutting made sleeping last night and waking so pleasant. Just filled the house with the wonderful aroma of fresh cut greens.
It also will take some pressure of my newly emerging beans. The Deer hit it hard last night and then will hit all the new clover growth in the next few weeks. IF he doesn't lay down liquid manure after picking up the clover cutting.

I used my stinkiest bug spray, malathion and sprayed the lower plots. Just in time on front beans, maybe too late on corn /sorghum we'll see. Beans are thick in a hide hole plot. Headed up to do the upper plots. 20210705_112757.jpg 20210705_112442.jpg 20210705_111900.jpg 20210705_111857.jpg

So the early bird gets the bean. Damn near everyone in my main upper plot and hit hard in semi shade plots. Oh well let's see if the residual turnips and the corn made it. I know that all the chopping of the clover roots will produce something by fall.

Also my Crispin apple ...I have sprayed now,5 x'swith two different sprays and still. Enlarge on trunk. That's just some on that tree.
Though there is hope...new growth is starting on many and all chestnuts. The oak, well I'll pray.

Hhmmm pics didn't make it. I'll try later.

I decided since I had that low spot on the plot to make it a permeant water hole, buried a water trough and thru the dirt into the low spot , also put up a ladder stand on the west end of the plot for those never ending east winds in September plot st.jpg plot st1.jpg plot wt.jpg

I made it to the property today after a much needed rain yesterday, 1.4 inches. But one of the clover plots is showing the stress of the lack of rain, hopefully this will help out… this is the worst spot, the rest is somewhat greener. A34BF5BE-DE0D-44C8-9B7D-7E0BF013022E.jpeg

Fusion on the right, Border Patrol on the left. My favorite combination. This is year 3.

We have a modified A frame,so only 2 windows upstairs. I got tired of never getting a good breeze seeing house back window is N/E. and trees block a good breeze. My handy stihl pruner took care of that this rainy day. 5 loads of limbs hauled and barely made a dent in them. But it worked. Amazing how much one tree can block. Limbiest tree I've ever cut!

From our morning walk. Have to walk woods right now because a CRAZY amount of deer and horse fly are on the road we walk. Poor A.J. gets chewed alive.
So beans are OK so far. Hit but still there. The corn well as you will see what few seeds made it the birds have done the usual plant pulling. Out Comes the turnip seed.....

    I hope lesson learned.

Do not attempt to spray with a handheld sprayer after partaking in beers.
I have a bad feeling I nailed a few pumpkin plants.

Today I finished my turnip over seeding. Also pulled daisy clumps out of tree plot. I turnip seeded every spot I pulled..lots of spots.
Now another new issue, completely and HEAVILY infested with the red beetles in pic. Now I did know but can't recall what these are..you farmers want to help me. I really do not want to spray because each pulled clump also showed a wonderful earth worm population I do not want to kill.
Also the cow peas in the shaded plots are doing way better than expected.
Oh the apples are trying to recover from gypsy moth.

Well I found what they are Asian Garden beetles. They eat roots as grubs and plants as beetles they eat at night. They eat ALL summer., So when the rain finally stop I'll spray everything again.
