I know we're not quite to 2021 yet but thought I would get this thread started because I know i'm not the only one getting the itch to get out there! 1) Who's all got some bigger trips planned for this year? 2) Has there been any talk of a shed contest for 2021? 3) Personal goals for this year? I personally have a couple trips that i'm hoping to make this spring. 1 is to get down to west central/southwest Iowa to walk some public and out to the black hills area. My uncle is currently building in Lead and am really hoping to get out there and find my first mule deer and or elk shed. If anyone has any tips for these areas, especially the Black Hills, I am all ears! Life has sure gotten in the way the last couple of years with work getting busier and having 2 young kids, but my personal goal this year is 15 sheds and add Wisconsin to my list of states I have found sheds in; if I can find time to get out there that is. Good luck to everyone this coming shed season!
As much as I love to shed hunt, I haven’t even shot a deer with my bow yet this year. Sad to think it’s almost here already
I’m still trying to punch my NR tag in Ohio! I do plan on some shed hunting/scouting new land and possibly shed hunting a couple potential leases.
Its getting close. I may start right when season ends as ive seen a bunch of missing sided and shed bucks already.
Found 3 old ones already just while hunting. One was a really nice 6 pt side on our hunting lease that was just laying out in the open for at least a year, maybe 2. Not sure how no one spotted it.
Was going to do a little walk on some public this weekend but talking 5-9" of snow so that probably won't happen.
Just walked 1.97 miles and nothing at a place i've had good luck in the past. I'd venture to say maybe a 1/4 of the tracks as normal. Not sure the reasoning.
I walked for 5 hours yesterday, probably around 8 miles and found zero sheds. Really thought I would at least stumble across a old one. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
all the bucks on My place here in Ga are still holding their horns, It will be a month before I start looking
Was hoping to get out in the next couple of days but a little system that blew through last night that was supposed to leave a dusting of snow dropped 5" and it's going to be damn cold. Will have to wait a bit yet.
So far I've found 2 before the snow got too deep to get a 4 wheeler up there. For some reason the bucks were dropping early this year. First 1 was found day after Christmas and 2nd one was found around January 9th.
I forgot to post in here. I walked last Saturday and Wednesday and picked up 1 old shed. Also found one dead head, it was a nice fork horn that I passed back in early October. Ashame that he got shot and not recovered. I didn't even take a pic. I will for now on. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
im hoping to get started soon but the snow just keeps piling up. i have about 18" in my yard now. i think this deep snow will help preserve some of the antlers for a bit longer.
Hoping I'll get out next week. Don't have a ton of snow to deal with but Holy balls it has been cold. Hoping that may have forced most to shed by next week, but ya never know. After this cold snap I can't wait to get out for more than 20 or 30 minutes at a time. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
We're supposed to get hit with ice the next few days in VA and WV. Working in WV starting tomorrow and was hoping to possibly find my first antler in that state but that may not happen. Working at a farm with 4 wheelers and about 250 acres so hopefully I'll at least get to find their bedding areas in case we go back.
Got a message from a friend that one of the big bucks that frequents his yard had dropped a side so I drove around to the school behind his house and saw it before even getting out of the truck. Easiest one I've ever found. Then managed to find one in another spot. It was right under a horizontal vine so probably pulled it off when he ducked under. Still a little early here but nice to be on the board with some fresh ones.
Got out for a couple hours. Found one fresh one and a broken side. Snow is almost gone. Will be back out this week. Thanks.
