Will be on our back 40 again all year. Can't wait to get minerals and cameras out soon to see what I will be chasing this fall.
Alberta for elk in September if the two-week quarantine for international travel in my state goes away by then.
My parents live there. I hunt under the Hunter Host program every three years. It is the only exception to needing an outfitter if you are coming up from the US. All it costs me is the plane ticket and nonresident tags.
It is great, we have been doing it since 2006. If this year works out, it will be the third time we have done it as an elk hunt.
Texas hunt was a bust. Neighbors started running dogs the weekend before I got there. Hogs went nocturnal. Now looking at going down to Tennessee for a hog.
Has to be a high fence hunt if it's hogs in Iowa. I haven't heard much about them but I'm on the other side of the state. Each to there own, but I did one in Missouri and I'll never do a fenced hunt again. Even if it was just hogs, and we had fun, but still just doesn't feel right to me. We're going to Oklahoma in February for hogs again.
My plan this year is deer, ducks, and turkey here in Iowa. September in theory going back up to Canada bear hunting and fishing in September. If the border is closed we'll probably just go back to North Dakota duck hunting in October. February were going after hogs on the Texas- Oklahoma line.
Turkey and bear opens today, first things of the year that I'll hunt. Tomorrow after working 1/2 a day I'll be heading to the property to put in the bear bait and prep the ladder stand near it...if I can get down to the area that is, still quite a bit of snow in the shade. I removed the seat cushion and lifeline after whitetail season, so have to put those back on. Will also check the stand straps, do that in Spring and Fall. Have some other chores to do up there too so won't turkey hunt until Saturday morning. I left a lifeline in the last tree I used the climber in, thinking I'd hunt it again but never did, so will take the climber up so that can be retrieved. Maybe, that one may have to wait another week or two to let some more snow melt. Think I left a pull rope in that tree too. Need to do some seeding near the new campsite we made last year and check on the spring with the new dam we put in last year. It should be pushing a lot of water right now with all the snow still melting off.
My turkey season starts tomorrow. Been watching a couple toms and some hens close to the house. Hopefully connect in the morning.
