Well i'm a bit late this year but how's everyone doing so far?! Combining is early this year so i'm hoping to actually get to do some late October/November hunting this year before everything freezes up! Anyone get any new gear this year? Big trips planned?
I haven't had the time to waterfowl hunt in a few years now. Definitely miss it. Some of the guys I used to go to NoDak with are in Saskatchewan right now. Eager to hear how they are making out.
Seems like the weather might start to cooperate in the next week. Saturday I drove to the WMA I look after and there were 2 vehicles where the upland hunters park, and 3 trucks down at the landing by the pond. Sunday there were no vehicles so nobody hunting. Early teal weekend there was a lot of shooting but not much last weekend.
Piss poor start to our season in NW Iowa, worst duck opener in years. Struggled for 2 ducks and 2 geese. And 2 coot, had to give the dogs something to do.... Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
Hunted the mn early goose season. Had a blast. Shot 18. My old dog loved the "hunt" but didn't have the "grunt" for the retrieves.
I tried several ways and although nothing "outstanding" it's was all (ok). Did get burnt out 4ating them though.
Definitely something I want to do someday. Have buddies that go every so often and shoot an insane amount of birds.
I make some kabobs i bet a dollar to a donut you would devour and savor every bite. They are the first thing to run out of at the annual VFW wild game cook. The gator nuggets aren't far behind though.
got the first load on only about 10 more to go. Will do a little at a time. Our opener is end of this month.
A big ol corn fed mallard is awesome too. Leave the skin and fat. Cast iron pan med/hi with some avacado oil, garlic, black pepper and salt. The best is breasting one out in the blind and cooking it right there with your eggs and bacon.
Really? I cannot eat [canadian] goose with out it being in jerky or bologna. Snow geese and ducks I can prepare pretty well. But, I do agree - pheasant are my favorite - wild - bird. When we went to Sask they said sandhill crane was the "ribeye of the sky" - but I thought it was disgusting.
In market for new shotgun. Possibly 2. So many good ones. Considering Franchi Affinity 3, SBE3, and the Retay masai. Also this new Savage reneguage has piqued my interest as well as the Fabarm. Will always give Browning and beretta their fair shot. Geez so many to look at this year. Even some of the cheaper models look good. I thought instead of an $1800 benelli maybe i get a $900 SX4 and a Stoeger 3500 for same price? Idk decisions. Any opinions? I know i might as well be asking what is the best Bow haha! also doesnt matter gas or inertia. Ive owned both and like both.
I adopted a small WMA just north of the house. I usually wait for sun up on the weekends to swing by look for litter and monitor usage. The WMA does feature a good size pond and a nice landing to access the water. I have only seen vehicles at the pond landing 1 Saturday and that was during the early teal season. Granted the weather has not been conducive but still I am amazed at the lack of pressure this WMA has on it.
When I worked fire I was stationed at the states most used WMA, Carlos Avery. That place gets pounded every day of the week.
