For the love of God, I thought we landed on SE OH as the popular choice.

One wrinkle someone suggested was camping near the state line to allow for hunting in either state. I kinda liked that idea. Camaraderie at camp, more hunting options.

Though I was thinking... a fun twist could be to set up camps in both KY AND OH with a bit of competition between the camps...

Someone needs to be designated to make a poll on an external sight or even on here where you can only vote once. Put it up for 48 hours and that decides the state.

this spot right in the middle where Huntington, Ashland, and I-64 meet is the tri-corner of OH, KY, and WV. Lots of state land in all 3.

Bah...need to nail this down. Personally won't be buying multiple state tags. I'd love to meet up, hang out and hunt hard, but not make it complicated.

Speaking for myself; I thought those of us who were talking about bouncing around between multiple states were thinking more along the lines that not everyone would be doing that; just that we'd like to be able to if we wanted to. Which is why I was thinking of a primary location on public land near either Chillicothe OH or Lexington KY - would be easy for anyone who wanted to to jump over to another state if they wanted.

Based on that; generally this is what we were looking at:

    Chillicothe OH general area:
    Wayne National Forest
Burr Oak/Zaleski/Strouds Run/Vinton Furnace/Richland Furnace State Forests (more or less contiguous)
3 deer tags; max 1 buck (public land is capped at 1 antlerless and 1 buck- this would apply to most of us)
    141.50 general non-resident license, + $41 deer tag either sex, + $15 additional antlerless
    • Hunter's Ed requirements: previously have held a license in any state; -OR- a valid hunter's ed card, -OR- swear on affidavit have taken Hunter's Ed previously (did't see an age caveat)

    Lexington KY general area:
Daniel Boon National Forest (enough said)
$140 hunting license + $120 deer license (gets you 4 deer tags; max 1 buck)
Season runs roughly Aug 31 - Jan 19 (may vary slightly I am basing this off last season's dates)
    • Anyone born after 1975 has to have a valid Hunter's Ed card in their possession while in the field.

Long story short and sweet; unless OH raised NR licensing fees from last season OH is going to be about $185 for a NR license/tag (good for buck or doe) with option to buy another $15 doe tag if your first deer is a buck) whereas KY is going to be minimum of $260. Plus it may be hard or some guys to dig up a hunter's ed card.

Based on all that I am good to go on OH.

    • if anyone who has hunted either state before sees a glaring error in my interpretations of the regs; please feel free to correct me. I don't want to get anyone jammed up or mislead anyone on prices

For the 2019-2020 license year, a nonresident hunting or apprentice hunting license will increase to $180.96. Nonresident white-tailed deer permits will increase to $76.96. A nonresident fishing license will increase to $50.96. Beginning Jan. 1, 2019, a Lake Erie permit ($11) will be required for all nonresidents to fish Ohio waters of Lake Erie from Jan. 1-April 30 each year.

If my math is right, that makes both Ohio and Kentucky's non resident licenses and tags both in the $250-$260 range. That is without considering a fishing license.

Sorry boys! I know I started this thread and have dissapeared! My lymedisease is kicking my butt in my forearms and elbows. I can barely lift anything without being in pain. I'm going to back out of this G2G, because I'm not sure how I'll be feeling come hunting season. Hope you all understand!
