This Thurs and Fri I'll finally have a couple days to scout the new public property. Making full days of the scouting...will be in the mid 80s. Lol. Oh well....every few hours slip down to a creek and cool off, then continue on. Have to use the time I have. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Public land in MI for me. Have a decent spot that starts to get good around Nov 7. Need to get up there to check on the logging activities. There were trees marked in my area but nothing had been cut as of early March. Private land in WI but the early season will be taken up by my first bear hunt.
Supposed to be hotter than I thought tomorrow. So I'll be up at 5 and headed to the public land to scout. Hope to scout til noon or so or until it's too hot and humid. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Thanks brother. Been a long time since Ive had the freedom and time to walk the woods. Im gonna enjoy it. I will let you know what I find. This is a heavily hunted state forest. Gonna take a lot of boot leather to figure out.
Nice! Didn’t know you were so close. I hunt some in the Carlyle area. Ive recently taken interest in Pyramid State Park, have you ever been there? Heard there’s no shortage of Big bucks but can be hard to hunt. A lot of small lakes and swamps
Checking in... PA public. Looking to expand to MD public to extend my season. And would like to get back out to Ohio. Already have some good bucks on camera in some public spots I scouted this year. Also bought a bike and have a tree saddle on order. So you could say things are getting pretty serious.
I’ll be interested in your reports on the tree saddle. Been thinking of one myself for certain places
First three hours done. Eliminated a lot of ground due to hunter pressure, easy access, and absolutely impenetrable swamps. Did find two possible stands for the early season. Big white oaks already forming up. Had to get out of the swamps. Hot, humid, bugs, and its rained like heck lately. I must have gotten bitten by every bug known to man. Resting up and gonna hit some quick spots between drinking a gallon of water. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
This new spot is a lot more accessible than I'm used to. Maps only told part of the truth. Many little roads and cut trails leading into places I thought were hard to get to. Aerial of best spot I found today. Right on the property line for the public. High ridge splitting some semi thickets. Full of big white oaks and no hunter pressure I could find. And also found some possible poaching. What do you all think? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I need to get out and do some scouting of the public lands I plan to hunt this year. I've only been hunting a few years, and haven't made it out the past couple so I'm still very green on it all.
Thickets on ridges bedding areas you think? I like the sounds of white oaks, But is the ridge overlooking it? Might be hard to sneak in there if so. Maybe a gooodmorning spot?
White oaks are right on the high spot. It will be hard. Also found another decent white oak spot. Trying to gain some food and maybe a half dozen rut spots to supplement my main public areas. Didnt find a single good rut area today (might have missed some). I like the terrain but I dont like that people went full redneck on this 10,000 acre spot and cut a thousand in roads and cut paths. I prefer very few roads and lots of walking. This is going to be a challenge. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Good stuff Jake. I brought out two cams today during the scout. Didnt find any place worth putting them. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
