Yup, sounds about like the opener on public lol.. Last year I had like 4 or 5 guys set up with climbers about an hour and a half before sunset, the furthest around 70 yards away, one guy waved to me on his way up the tree lol. That same year on the shotgun opener as the orange army took to the field I was in the stand with the bow when I heard something beating through the brush, it was a guy with a shotgun walking around looking for bambi while smoking a cigarette. Gotta love it! Sent from my SM-N950U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I cant deal with that stuff. Just like fishing. If there are 100 boats I'm gone. It's a mental thing. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Ehh, go again next weekend. Bow opener is like the fishing opener. Tons of people that first weekend and then drops to less than half the following weekend. And then another third to half the 3rd weekend.
If at all possible, it's best to hit public land during the week. The public land I hunt is literally deserted during the week.
BINGO. Hoping for a Friday afternoon trip after this cold front blows through. Less people + better weather should hopefully equal at least one deer sighting from stand. I hope anyways.
The new public military base I will be hunting a lot is only open Tues through Saturday. No Monday hunting? Weird.
Well, I’m finally rejoining the public land crusade after about 5-6 years. I started on public but was lucky enough to have some sweet private leases for several years. One was lost and the other was 2 hours away and just wasn’t convenient with a family at home trying to make it worth the money spent. I downloaded ONX Hunt and got my stand ready. Let’s do this! I’m in Mount Airy. I fish the monocacy all the time and have heard decent things about the hunting there. I’m gonna try to hand at a place 5 mins down the road but if you ever want to meet up and get a hunt in, let me know. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Day 2 scouting this new public piece was much more productive. Set a cam out near some dropping white oaks. Tons of active feed sign. Might hunt it day 1 in afternoon. Oct 6. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
mostly public for me here in arkansas this year. I have several different stand sights on (3) different tracts of ground. This will be my 1st year going 90% public so I am pumped about it. I have put in a lot of time (driving and walking) during the last month or so. I am looking forward to the 22nd opener
Get after em VS! I Scouted a huge piece Sunday, it kicked my butt. The size of the place is a bit overwhelming but the sign on the portion I walked was underwhelming It reminded me that no matter how good a spot looks on the maps nothing beats boots in the mud. Ended up seeing 2 good bucks together on the way out in an area I had kind of overlooked so I marked it on the gps to pay them a visit in the future. So not a total bust.
VS I like your idea. There is some public land in WI (about 30 miles away) that is along a river and there are several landings in the area. And I just found out the county gated the access road. I need to get some details ASAP! If this is a permanent closure, I might just stop hunting at home and head there.
I hung my 2nd Cam within about a mile of my other cam. Both areas are absolutely trashed with deer tracks, crap, and acorns. Day 1 I am going to look at the wind and pick the one spot that seems better for that wind and just go for it. And I'll check my Cam when I'm in there to determine what kind of animals I'll be hunting in that area and wether it's even worth it to be in there. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I hunted WI public again last weekend - and actually had deer in bow range both times. Passed a doe at about 35 yards on Friday night since I was almost 2 miles from the truck and didn't feel like dragging her out that far. Sunday eve I had two young bucks point blank in front of me on a piece of public I just walked into that day. Headed out somewhere on Friday afternoon, just not quite sure where yet. Weather is looking good again. Hoping the skeeters are died down a bit b/c they were BAD on Sunday.
Justin the trip in today was too long and there are stump fields. 45 min paddle in. 2 solutions. Go with my canoe. Or...I found a way in on foot. Walk a quarter mile then stash my kayak along the bank for a quick last half mile. I cant paddle a mile and a half one way. Too much. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
