Tomorrow’s the day I have a full day to my self and will be back in a tree! I went out and checked out one of the places I hunt today and it’s absent of deer sign. I’ll be out where I shot my buck this year tomorrow.

What’s everyone’s thoughts about mornings in late season? I’ve usually only hunted evenings with success late season and haven’t really hunted mornings ever past early December

I was trying to do that when I was in my blind but it wasn’t working out. The pic I took when I was walking back to truck. I had bow in hand with arrow knocked and couldn’t get my phone out of my pocket quick enough, plus my Binos where in my pack at that point.
That’s the first buck I’ve had a visual on and was able to rattle him back towards me. Sucks I had to leave or I would have waited him out.

I think when temps are dropping they are feeding longer in the mornings. So then it comes down to knowing the terrain and getting in without being heard or winded. But for morning hunts I’m usually in well over an hour early.

I'm getting 80% of my pics in the morning. I will probably be out one of the AMs this weekend, chasing does again.

Hope everyone in the Thwack Pack had a great Christmas with their families! I saw several great bucks these past few days that survived the season and look to be in good health to make it through the winter. I also saw a buck that I had believed died a couple months ago but is still hanging on. He was shot early in bow season in the front shoulder and is skinny as a rail. Surprised to see him still hanging on to his rack. A few bucks have already shed out around me. I am excited for February to start picking up some antlers. Good luck to those still hunting!

He scored a little better than I thought he would because of the mass. Scored it twice, let me know if you guys see somewhere I messed up.

On his left side would you only have 3 measurements of mass since he only has 3 “points”? I honestly don’t know so I’m asking

That’s something that confuses me as well. But I believe Fix is right, 4 masses per side. Okie, you are the man! Way to get it done

Yea, I wasn’t sure about this either but from what I found a buck gets 4 mass measurements per side no matter how many points it has.

for some reason I think your last mass measurement is to be taken like an 1" from the end of the main beam. check with p&y.

Hey troy since you killed such a great deer I think you should retire your bow in honor....since you are going to retire it I guess I can take it off your hands. I could give you a sob story or money which ever works for you.

Best I can find the consensus is If a buck only has G1 & G2, the H3 & H4 measurements should be the same and be taken half way between the G2 and the end of the main beam.

I took my H3 measurement about 1/3 of the distance between the G2 and the end of the main beam and my H4 measurement 2/3 of that distance between the G2 and the end of the main beam. Either way, my score isn’t going to change more than 1 inch.
