Drew back on a big buck tonight. I was Hunting on the ground and he came and kept looking at me. He went broadside I drew back, he looked at me and bolted. Pretty disappointed. Got one more hunt then heading back to Kansas.

Just got home. What a disaster. Started tracking her at 4:00 cause I was too zoned out to hunt. Ended up bumping her and sat by a tree watching through binos. She would go 10-20 yards at a time and kept bedding down.
Watched her lay her head down and just couldn’t believe she would stand walk and bed.
I backed out quietly and waited till dark. Went back to where she was laying thinking surely she’s done and she was gone.
Found her on the river bank.

I’m tired.... entry hole had gut pluging it up and exit was behind her armpit. More quartering away then I thought.

Best friend shot a buck this morning at 9:00. Had real good bright bubbly lung blood for 50 yards and he ran onto the neighbors. Called my buddy who’s the neighbor and got the okay to track. Went back after about 4 hours and ended up bumping the deer in the standing beans but he never saw us. We hit the deck when I saw him walking in the beans. Man did he look rough. So we decided to back out and come in at 8:00 where I saw him enter the thicket. Got down there and found awesome blood and had an easy track job and he died 60 yards from the house.

Also, I have quite the story for you guys but I’m too tired to type.

There’s some days in the woods that you just can’t forget and yesterday was one of them for me. The last month I have been hunting every weekend with my old college roommate. He’s moving to Utah in December for an Econ Officer so time with friends is important to us.
Yesterday morning we had a slight intention to sit from dark to dark. Me being without a buck tag, planned to basically nature watch and take a lone doe if possible. Between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. we saw 6 bucks that were all very small. Between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. I had 4 bucks all over 130, one pushing 150 come by me dogging does and cruising within 50 yards. Of course none of those guys passed my buddy who was only 70 yards away. Around noon I decided he shoot come sit by me so we found a good pair of trees right close next to each other and shot up them in our climbers. I have never had such a good time in a treestand. We laughed our asses off and really just enjoyed one of the best hunts of the year, seeing 3 great bucks and countless does. I ended up taking a doe and watching her fall over. Obviously I would of loved for him to get a shot at a good buck, but really we just enjoyed the memories we made. Alright I’m done being soft.

Great story Cml! So checked a cam this morning and got some great news. The 8 pt I shot last week is alive and well besides a big wound in his back strap. You can see it in the pics, man that was a horrible shot but I’m glad he is ok. He earned the right to make it another year in my book.

Well guys I just got a call from our neighbor in Indiana. He found my buck. The yotes had completely destroyed him but he is going to cut the head off and hang it in his barn for me.
This buck was about 400 yards from where I lost blood so i was not even in the same area when i was searching.

Hopefully I can put a buck down in Illinois to get us some points.

Unfortunate end for that deer but at least there is some closure.

    Time for my story:

So yesterday morning my best friend shot a buck. Called me and said he had real good bubbles and frothy blood. So he’s on the trail and comes to the neighbors property. I called him up and he gave us the okay to look for him. After 3 hours we go back and I end up on my hands knees finding the smallest drops of blood. I end up guessing and heading to a low spot that headed back into where he hunts and got on decent blood. End up trailing it in the thick stuff for about 50 yards before it dried up. Called the neighbor because he has a blood dog and he told us to walk the. CRP first and bump him in the woods if anything. As I’m walking to the bottom of the crp I see a buck hurting bad out in the beans and it was him. We hit the deck and watched exactly where he ended up going. Decided to back out again and come back around 8:30. We find where he went in and this blood trail after we bumped him was great. It was an easy walking trail to follow. We got to a certain point where we were 50 yards from his girlfriends parents house and I heard a deer moving so we froze and look to our right. I shine the light and my buddy goes that’s him but I said that ain’t your buck dude. My buddy shot a 3yr old 9 point and this thing staring at me was a 4 or 5 yr old 14 pointer..at 10 yards. We froze and this buck bristled up and his ears were pinned back it made me a little uncomfortable. We did all we kid to scare him off and then we lost him for two minutes until he came around the clearing into our mowed trail at about yards. One of the craziest encounters I’ve had with a deer. Then I figured that he was standing right next to dead buck and sure enough he was. I drug him out of the dead treee and was like hey man you made a good shot. But what’s this blood on his neck from? That buck had been fighting the dead deer and gored him up! Pretty cool experience there!
