Personally not a fan of this addition. Just my 2 cents.

The line has been drawn at animals with "deer" in their name. While elk and moose are part of the deer family, they do not count.

Blacktail and Coues DEER are fine as well. I suppose you can throw Sika deer in there too if you want.

What about fallow deer? Texas has a wild population of those.
Personally I say draw the line at DEER species indigenous to North America. Maybe allow exotics as the 50 point bonus?

I'm all for limiting it to deer...but I still say we should be able to enter more than 2 animals. The majority of deer hunters live in the Eastern 1/3 of the country, where most states do not limit you to one buck. Some guys could really stack up points if they could enter say two bucks, and more than one doe...or as an alternative, maybe switching out buck score a maximum of one time if a larger one is shot later.

I like the idea of being able to swap out Bucks. I understand that not everyone can take two bucksin their state, BUT not everyone lives in the midwest. Where I hunt a 120" buck is a giant, and anything bigger is very rare.

I could get on board with swapping out a second larger buck. It's probably the one thing I didn't like about the contest rules. Seems like a penalty in a way, but that's the rule so I just went with it. Just my opinion anyway. It would do away with the sandbagging concerns...maybe.

It may seem like a penalty to folks in 2 buck states or guys that travel to hunt, but allowing it would seem like a penalty to those in single buck states who don't have those opportunities. Can't make it fair for everyone so we're going to stick with the "You break it, you buy it" mentality. First buck you put down is your score. There's no do-overs when you're killing stuff.

Right on. Just for clarity I wasn't petitioning for change. Just wouldn't mind if it changed.

Whereas in NC we could (at least theoretically) take 6 (up to 2 antlered, as of last year). They are not typically the size of the Midwestern deer though...[IMG]

But those in the single buck states have bigger bucks!! lol!!

BUT, I understand, and respect the decision!

I've ruffled enough feathers for one pre-season in the crossbow thread.

I'm in a two buck state and wouldn't vote for swapping bucks.

The whole intent on allowing a second buck was for areas that could not shoot does but could still put two deer down. That seemed reasonable and was implemented. Before that only a doe or antlerless deer counted, now its just "bonus" deer.

I also like the fact that their is no multiplier anymore for blacktails, think it was 1.25 or something thereabouts. Not sure about if there was a muley multiplier or not, seen it memtioned muley and blacktails no longer get a multiplier just gross score. I've only seen 1 blacktail entered, think it was beetlebailey or something like that. Been quite a few muley's, Justin entered one a few seasons back I think.

Wouldn't be for bonus points for other predators/turkey either.

Damn, I sound like a grumpy old man now. Beware Live from the Stander's, I may be going senile....
