Here is the video of my 2018 archery buck. I learned a valuable lesson with this deer. I don't care if you watch the whole video, but if you could fast forward to about the 11:50 mark and let me know what you think about my final statements on this experience. Have any of you experienced a revelation like I did? Or was it wrong to not accomplish my original goal? I know my mind is made up, I would be interested in hearing some of your thoughts. Please keep it respectful, as everyone hunts for their own reasons. Nobody is right or wrong.

Every deer with a bow is a trophy. I also had my plans on a mature deer with my bow, but I’ve only killed one deer with a bow before this years kill, so when a deer came to 25 yards and stopped, I let my arrow fly.
I soon found this deer and was surprised to see bumps on it’s head. A button buck, NOT the doe I thought it was. I’m proud of my second bow kill and the steaks are SO tender. I’m happy I decided to shoot because if I didn’t I’d be kicking myself often.
Nice video and congrats on a nice buck.

You've got nothing to excuse. That's a nice deer, and like you said now you will always have the memory. I can't remember every cool encounter I've ever had, but I can remember the scenario of how I got every set of antlers I have in my house. Not that there's dozens of them, but given I've been killing deer for the better part of 25 years that's a lot of good memories if not a lot of inches.

Been hunting these three deer for 2 years now haven’t got a close encounter yet (closer than 60 yards anyways). I shot the two you see and have zero regrets. Some people ask me why I didn’t stick it out the rest of the season. Well the moment the two deer I’ve took stepped out I knew I was going to try harvest them. Absolutely unforgettable experiences. The first was beating up a 2x2 decoy and the second was chasing does and I shot him as he was just finishing a rub. My heart was pounding so hard on both deer that one of my feet felt like it was bouncing a foot or two up and down!!! Great times in the outdoors!

Congrats and thanks for sharing. Thats an awesome buck and you should be proud. Only recommendation I have would be to remove the arrow from the buck before you start dragging it. Mostly for safety reasons but I enjoyed watching it.

Great video and buck, absolutely no explanation or apology necessary. Obviously your reaction after the kill while on the phone made it all worthwhile for you. I loved the way you edited in the trailcam pics/videos you had of this deer. It added so much to the story. Congrats again on a great buck!

    Blessings.........Pastorjim

Great buck. Never make an excuse as to why you shot a buck. Sounds like a great experience and memory. Congrats on a fine kill!

Thank you all for the kind words! This is one of the only online forums that isn't filled with negativity and hunters bashing hunters!

Cool story, awesome experience. Hunting is so fascinating because the standard and ethics associated with it are like an amoeba. It's like this glob that's always bending, twisting, and going in different directions at the same time and I don't just mean that on the level of the individual hunter. Different states all have different laws and standards and even the laws within the states are subject to change year by year. As long as you don't break the law follow your own standards. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday not where some other Hunters are today. Maybe you adjust your standards for a bigger one next time or maybe you don't. I'll still watch your video whether you shoot a 100 incher or 150 incher. Congrats.
