I also had high hopes until I got to my blind and checked my cards yesterday morning. All night pictures for the last 4 days or nights I should say. Ready for this moon phase to change and some cool weather. But it is early and still plenty of season left. Thinking about going in the morning but I may hold off until the weekend.
Congrats @hunterman927 !!! We were out last evening again. Time wasn't on my side. I had one of our shooter bucks come into my area, but he only came to about 64 yrds out before legal shooting time was over. At least I know he is still in the area and there is plenty of time to still chase him this season. I'm going to be out in the woods again Friday and Sunday, crossing my fingers I get a shot on something.
Thanks bud!!!! Good luck Friday and Sunday when you go. Hopefully you get him before guns start showing up in the woods.
I got a doe opening morning. I’ve seen a lot of deer since just nothing I want to shoot. Hunterman we are only a few miles apart. I live in muldrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So I was out on our hunting property this past Sunday, and things didn't quite go as planned! Sunday morning, my dad and I hunted, each of us in a ground blind at different spots. The wind was pretty gusty all morning and neither of us had seen anything by 0930 hrs., so we headed in for lunch and naps. We were back out for an evening hunt, but this time we switched blinds. Around 1745 hrs. the wind completely laid down. About 1810 hrs. I had two does come in. One stopped for a few seconds and moved on. The second stopped at a corn pile and put her head down to eat. Not a care in the world. She was 12 yrds. out and I assumed was about to be put in the dirt. I go to draw my bow and my left shoulder locks up (it's a wreck from an accident a few years ago and I have put surgery off for a couple of years) and I am unable to get to full draw. I attempt to fully draw my bow (60 lb. pull) 8 or 10 times with no luck. Instead I pick up my phone and take a pic of her and then start texting all my friends and showing them my situation. I guess you win some, you lose some, but that had to be the most helpless feeling I have ever experienced. I am strongly considering switching to a crossbow (my dad hunts with one), but still haven't made up my mind. I had hoped to get one more season with my bow. Guess I'll keep thinking about it and see what happens Thursday evening when we head out again.
So.... after the cluster f*ck that happened this past Sunday, when I couldn't take a shot at that doe because of my bad shoulder locking up, I made the decision to transition to a crossbow. I have resisted the change for a ouple of years now, and me being hard headed finally bit me in the ass last Sunday. So, for now, I am officially past of the crossbow crowd, and not too sure how I feel about it LOL. I am holding on to my Bowtech, and going to see a chiropractor to see if I can get some relief for my shoulder without surgery. So I present to you, my newest weapon acquisition.
Nothing wrong with a crossbow! I thought I was going to be shooting a crossbow a few years ago... I tore my rotary cup. Fortunately it healed good enough without surgery. I would have switched and never thought twice lol. Good luck with your shoulder though, I do understand your resistance though.
o, I got out this a.m. and got the x-bow sighted in. I added a foregrip to it and it is much more stable on the front end now when shooting free handed, without a rest. It has taken a little getting used to. I'm still missing the Bowtech, but it is what it is! All in all.... not a bad way to spend a morning other than being in the woods. I'd say this machine is ready to rock after shooting this group at 40 yrds. With the cooler weather coming at us, I hope to spend the second part of the week in the blind or a stand.
Very nice group!!! Yeah with the cooler weather I'm gearing up for the rest of the week and weekend. The rut is picking up here, it's time to be out there. Last weekend was youth rifle as y'all may know, I took my nephew and we got it done Sunday morning! His 3rd day hunting ever and he put a awesome shot on this spike. Good luck fellers, I may be at camp the rest of the week...
Finally... the cooler weather that's needed is here! Kind of windy this morning, so I guess I'll make thee call about en evening hunt today later on. I am going to get in the woods the next two days and am hoping I put one on the ground. It'd be nice to see my freezer full of meat! Good luck to all you guys this weekend!
Well, , my ol' man and me hit the woods Sat. and Sun. evening. We didn't see squat either day, but I did hear a buck grunt twice very close to me, but never laid eyes on him. We noticed we haven't been seeing the big bucks on our cameras. We pulled the card from a camera that is set up in the middle of a tree stand and a ground blind, about 100 yard from each. We got home and reviewed the card, and there they were! All three big shooters. So now it is a matter of moving stands/blinds and then giving them a few days to get used to them. Lots of season left and, God willing, I'll get that 6x4.
Has anyone seen any good indicators that the rut is kicking off? I was out Sat. morning and watched a small buck pushing a doe around, but that is about it. I need the big shooters to lose their senses and get one thing on their mind so they start moving in the daylight. Has anyone else seen sign that the rut is close?
been seeing lots of does ,but last night i saw a young buck chasing some does, so i know its right on the heels of the best time to be in the woods. im going this weekend at ft cobb wma, so should see lots of action........just wish we could get some of that snow thats up north here , cus it sure makes for good hunting
Yeah I hear ya! It is right on the verge of being the chaos we all love. I need it to happen! I'm still looking to put one in the dirt this year!
He's moving more in the daylight, and right in front of my blind. Only thing wrong is that I wasn't sitting in it yesterday. (Note: The time on the camera hasn't been rolled back yet)
