Also, I'm not sure how I missed this thread. My goal is to shoot more geese this year. They started using a big field on one of my leases late last year( which they've never done before) so that's a solid new option for me. Also the increase in black ducks is huge since that's pretty much the only thing that shows up here until after the season the past few years.

I ain't been on this site in forever and the waterfowl thread was the only reason I came here then. Nice to see it still going.
I think I'm most excited to see my dog work. She was 16 months old at the start of last season and was great. All the work we did during the year really showed during season. She picked up 349 ducks and had hunted in 4 states. By the time season was over she had seen just about all there was to see when it came to duck hunting. Guys in the duck club said she was one of the best they had seen. With another year of training under her belt she should be awesome this season. Counting down the days.....

I use 12 oz neck ring anchor weights on the Mississippi and kaskaskia. I use about 20 ft of nylon line with a depth adjustment toggle. I've lost too many decoys on the rivers by undersizing my weights and too short of cord. 8 oz isn't bad for ducks maybe but I'd go with something besides an egg. Especially if sandy bottom they have a tendency to roll instead of grab. IMO :tu:

Thanks for the info. We might hit up the Mississippi a couple times this year other wise we will be around the WI river.

Gentlemen good luck on your seasons. I bought a waterfowl (river) property last fall and have been getting it ready for duck season. Added a permanent blind on the river frontage a couple weeks back. Had fun with wood duck boxes and cams in the spring and look forward to adding many more of those next year. Early goose season looks rough for me, will probably wait on those until crops come out. Dove is the 1st and looks really good.

I can't get the geese to fly low enough at the spot I took you.

Ah yeah. Until that stupid pond freezes up they won't roost on the river. You need to come up north more.

You might have me confused with somebody else, I don't make calls if that's what you were asking. Seems like there was a dude on here that did make calls though. He lived in IN maybe, can't recall his name.

Stepped on an underwater fence post yesterday and tore a nasty 6" hole right above the boot in my waders. So I guess I'm involuntarily in the market for new ones. Any reccomendations?
