I have drilled holes with a hand auger and it is that bad, sure early season no big deal but when the ice gets more than 6" thick it sucks. As far as the one person my wife would like to go as well so I either have to buy a 2 person or two one person shelters.

Gotcha. 2 man makes sense then. But i have a 6” black strike master lazer and it’s works awesome. I used it through at least 9” of ice last year.

Not exactly sure why... But my mom showed up at my house with a new Vexilar FLX-28 Ultra Pack last week. It's the biggest gift I've ever received and I didn't even ask for it. I can't wait to get that thing on the ice.

Jake I hate to admit this but when I last ice fished we didn't use depth finders other than the ones you clamped on your jig when you set the bobber.

I did that for years while my cousin had a Vexilar. Still caught as many walleyes; suspended crappies is another story though. I wouldn't fish without one now days.

Simple solution to this is have some beer with you. 90% of guys will pop a hole or two for you for a beer, most for nothing.

We have an Ion and that thing is awesome! My buddy has the reverse version and that's even better.

They look sweet but I cant justify a purchase on a power auger right now. Plus I like being light weight if I am walking. I need a wheeler lol

I did that too until last year. Last year was the first year having electronics... They are such a game changer.

Ions are super light! But yes, I completely understand. We used a hand auger only for about the first 5 years.

I have thought about getting a used drill and attaching it to the hand auger. But I haven’t the slightest idea on what to look for in a setup like that

Unfortunately many people don't know that the Ice Castle brand is one of the most poorly built permanent house/camper that is made. Looks extremely nice but there are much better brands out there.

thats what I have heard as well, they seemed to have cornered the market in the beginning, now the other brands out there have the quality over them. I would like to get one someday...

This cold snap and seeing ponds froze over on the way home from work has got me itching for days like this one from last year. We might have some fishable spots in a week. IMG_4519.JPG
