I don't know if we will see any elk though. You can't stop running your mouth and laughing like a crazy person! It will be a 2 week trip to remember that's for sure! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dave - sure hope you roll into Will's camp with a punched tag a great story to share (although part of me would like to see you drop that elk in 45 and I'm close enough to help pack a quarter out) I'm craving the sound of bugle right now...and it's only January...
You're bringing more than your Lapua right? Figured I'd bring my AR this year and then we can really have some fun!
You have to go now. You already brought the 338 into the equation. Can't tease a man like that Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looks like it's been a pretty good (being wet/snowy) winter, so far, across Colorado... http://cwcb.state.co.us/public-info...ility-task-forces/Documents/DroughtUpdate.pdf
I will be hunting elk for the first time this year in the 2nd rifle season in CO. We will be north of pagosa springs. We've been planning a while and now that the year has came...it's all I can think about! I'm reading all I can about how to hunt public land.
Ditto on hunting this year for elk. And when I'm not reading, I'm trying to get in better shape while listening to podcasts about hunting...
Ok quick question that I'm sure Ill get beat up on. But I'm a firm believer in my camo. LOL I mainly hunt here in the Midwest for whitetails. I usually where my Mossy Oak treestand. Coming out west will this be ok since it has so many light colors in it or do I need to venture to something with more dark colors.
You will be fine. I'm in the process of buying new camo tho so don't take my advice haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have terrible yet good news. Elk trip isn't happening this year for me, but there is a very good reason for it. While I know this isn't as expensive as a normal elk trip it isn't chump change to this guy. However, that said I'd made arrangements and wife approved....however found out last week the farmer of the one property I am hunting whitetails here near my home may want to discuss selling the property sooner rather than later like thought. We originally thought we had 4-5 years minimum if not a dozen before that would be discussed....not anymore. Depending what comes of his back surgery he wants to discuss it as soon as this fall....so I am busy saving every bit I can towards a solid down payment on the Land Contract (which is what it would be!!!). So everyone going be sure to post up a ton, so I can live through the posts for yet another go around of this! Kills me but owning my own slice of land (albeit just 40 acres) is honest to God the only selfish dream I beg from God (knowing full well that isn't how it works).
Funny thing is, I'd grabbed a pack, better boots and sleeping bag fully oriented around this trip...guess I'm set for in the future no matter what happens Can't wait to see all the pics roll into the thread of everyone's prepping, arrival and Lord willing harvest shots!
Matt , it wouldn't be Elk Camp without see you my friend , I'll do my best to come see you guys in 45, but if I'm on them ....... I'll let you all know how we are getting on I'd love to go get that big boy 7x7, but I'll see what what 2013's hunting ground brings first.
All you newcomers, you could not pick a better camp to cut your Elk hunting teeth on, Will's camp offers the best experience, but only you can make it the trip of memories.
I still can't believe I signed up to hunt with you for almost 2 weeks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have a couple of (probably stupid) questions. 1. How does everyone figure out where to hunt so you're not tripping all over each other? 2. What has been the success rate on deer/ elk?
Those so much land to cover its not difficult getting away from people. The success rate isn't great but it's not an easy hunt at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not necessarily a measure of this or any hunt in particular, but overall success rates and many other stats by unit can be found here. I would suspect those local hunters and those with experience in the units (and elk hunting in general) certainly represent the bulk of those successful: Colorado Parks & Wildlife - Elk Hunting Statistics
