Atvs are allowed but you must purchase a stamp for it. I believe it is $50 and you atv must be licensed. You can drive up the access roads to the trailheads. Some of the roads are so bad trucks had trouble getting through them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Awesome.. THANKS! We are definitely interested. It's been a dream/bucket list hunt for as long as I can remember.... just never pulled it together. I LOVE whitetail hunting and am worried, (well...not that worried), that I become addicted... Who am I kidding? I know I will.
It already has... I've spent some time in Jackson WY next to the refuge. You can hear em all over there.
Anyone thinking about it...stop thinking and start planning! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
Only thing really required this early is to start getting some basic exercise in...even simply long walks and then start adding backpack with walks will do wonders to get ready. If you've never been, it's hard to understand when some say there is no way to be in "too good" of shape. But you can hunt as easy or as hard as you want...but the better shape your legs are in the more ground you can cover and better you'll feel on day 5, 6, etc (and better attitude if not physically drained and/or blisters). Otherwise only items that really need to be considered are good boots (get them broke in), decent pack (to carry water/food/essentials), and GPS (to find truck at end of day - most modern smart phones even work just fine with some GPS apps). Boots are only thing you should have a couple months out - most everything else can be picked up closer to hunt, and as easy as it is to get addicted to all the gear - it truly does not require anything more than what you may already have for hunting whitetails. If you have more particular questions, ask away! I've always found the journey leading up to hunt nearly as fun as the hunt itself.
I am definitely TAGGING this thread! I was raised in Colorado and miss it immensely after moving out of state in my 20's. Unfortunately/fortunately, I took up hunting later in life and would love to hunt elk and mulies. I'll be following this thread carefully!
How many hunters are usually in or allowed in this camp? I will be watching as I wait to see if I get drawn for some other hunts I have applied for.
I want to say around 20, maybe more, showed up in 2014. There was room for a few more for sure but more tents can be added to make more room. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thats right ya little s#!t, you'll be backcountry Elk Hunting with Me and Andy, hope you have started getting your gear together . I'm sure we'll catch up with everybody at the big camp, just gotta call at another hunting ground first to see if the Elk are about.
