So, I'm really contemplating this...how much are otc tags? Do they include either sex? How much is a deer tag? Is it otc also? And you caneed really just come in to camp and just kick in on the food and chores and go hunting? Is my 62 # bow enough to do this with? Should I pm someone instead of asking all these questions in the post? Lol
Elk tag is $600 and it is an either sex tag. I'm not sure how much a deer tag is but its around $250 I think? someone else will chime in on that. Deer tags are a draw tag so you have to put in for it in May I believe. Yes the camp site and tents are ready. Just bring a cot so people that fly in don't have to pack one. Will has quite a few for these situations. Last year I think we each paid around $100 for groceries and that was it. Hope you can make it! Your bow is plenty. People have killed elk with far less. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this. Elk tags are OTC. Cow only are 450. Either sex are 600. Deer tags are a draw and I believe they are like 325 or 350. Yes. Pitch in on chores and kick in some money for food and you are more than welcome. Just be sure and let will know you are coming so he has an accurate head count for food. I'm not sure what everyone is pulling but 62# is more than enough for muleys.
2016 invite So it seems that this 2016 invite is Not Official? Just relieving boredom? Oh well, guess I will just have to wait.I thought it was kinda early.
No it's official. The camp is happening. The dates I posted are correct. Will (host of the camp) is debating on which unit to have it in this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thank you guys so much for the information. This is so awesome. I have a buddy that wants to go. I will check with work and see if we can't get some plans together. Thank ya'll again.
Elk hunting is very tough. I only saw 1 elk the whole trip but I went with the mindset that I wouldn't kill an elk. Just being there was worth the cost of the trip. I plan on making it out there every year from now on if that tells you anything! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just be prepared to be an elkaholic. That's all I think about anymore. I deer hunt some of the best areas in south east Iowa and id give it up for more elk hunting!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Deer tags were like $360 last year and you have to apply by the 2nd week of April I believe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Following. As I said before I'm seriously interested. The only thing I'm thinking that may become a challenge is work and a few minor logistics... Already started trying to start whipping this old body into shape.
In for sure!!!!! Been waiting patiently like a 3 yr old on Christmas morning to roll around this year. Getting in shape and seeing what this new prosthetic leg can handle. Meat or not this sounds like an awesome getaway.
Always puts a smile on my face to see this invite - I don't know many people that would put forth this effort that Will does to open up his backyard for others, supply the mega-elk camp, and handle the food, stoves, fuel, etc...and Smile the whole time! Just Awesome! I'll always be grateful for the invite in 2010, and I've been back every year since...elk meat or not, it just does my soul good tromping around those mountains. God willing (and just as importantly Wife willing) I'll be out again this fall...and I've already got Elk on the brain every day and it's already motivating me into staying in shape. I just realized I've yet to even take my pictures off my phone from 2015 hunt/camp...I'll try to do a quick recap soon. Elk encounters may have been down from previous years (I blame the calm bluebird sky summer like weather)...but I still had my chance...and with a little more luck we might have had 3 elk in the trailer and be talking about the most epic week ever on the mountain. But elk are tough with archery...and I cannot get enough of it. If you have the time and desire - make the trip this year. You honestly don't need anything other than your whitetail gear except maybe better boots and a few disposable ponchos for rain storms (and proof of hunt education to buy tag). I have an extra frame pack that anyone is welcome to borrow to haul meat out with. Or go for deer only this time to get your feet wet - I've yet to do it as I'm a full blown elkoholic - but someday I'd like to get a mulie as well (April 5th is the deadline to apply for mule deer tag - you cannot get deer OTC). Here is one quick pick from 2015 - some years the Aspens are just perfect...and yes, it was every bit as steep as it looks
It was in unit 45 last time. Not sure if Will is thinking about moving it or not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
