Wouldn't be a bad idea. I took a handgun and rarely carried it. Last thing you want to do is shooting bear though. Last resort for sure.

Hello everyone my name is Jordan I just moved to Colorado Springs from upstate NY (pcs army) I absolutely love it here and can't wait to get out and hunt! I have only bow hunted for two years but was pretty successful with white tail in NY. I am brand new to the area and elk hunting so would love to join the camp and link up with some experienced hunters to learn the ways. My leave is over on the 13th unfortunately so I am trying to head out a little early and would much appreciate a hunting buddy for my first trip. I will most likely return the weekend when the camp is in full swing to try and take advantage of such a great opportunity. Just message me or reply if anyone is going to be available otherwise I hope to see everyone on the weekend !

Jordan, Chris from the UK will be in camp. I think you two can link up-I'm sure Chris would enjoy the company. Chris is also military. Thank, by the way. Give me a call (303)434-2052. I will help get you two together. Troy from Oz will be there too!

Gents, I am 55 Y/O and have spent countless hours in Colorado's woods. Not once have I ever felt threatened by bears. If you see them and make your presence known, they'll run away. If you are attacked by a Mt. lion, you'll never know it until you show up at the pearly gates as a turd. Keep your pack light since laying boot leather down increases your odds on success.

    Bring rain gear.....

Looks like 2018 I'll be there. Actually thinking of moving to Colorado from Wisconsin next year. Definitely out west somewhere. Gotta get i to the mountains. Thanks much for the info.

Never been elk hunting only whitetails here in Wisconsin. I'm purely a bowhunter is that ok? Where exactly is the camp located?

Just south of Minturn near Red Cliff. We are all bowhunters at camp!

I'm totally new to taptalk so I'm trying to figure all this out right now. Plus I do this all on my phone and it's not the best.

Awesome! I will do my best to make it there in 2018. Never having hunted elk or in the mountains I would enjoy and benefit from the the knowledge you all have attained. I look forward to this exciting opportunity. Thanks guys.

I know it's hard to see, but that's another 5x5 bull that I can't shoot. He's 25 yards away, headed to a waterhole. He got within 20 yards but I didn't want to run him off by playing with my phone too much.

Somebody please kill a bull for me. I can only watch them. :)

Camp is just around the corner, have read all the posts from Elk Camp 2014. I have noticed that there doesn't seem to be the same excitement leading up to camp 2016. I guess everyone is busy preparing and don't have time to post. When does Will ask for a general head count? This will be my first Elk camp. Safe travels to all hunters this season.

Not as many forum members seem to be taking him up this year I think. A head count would be very nice right now so he can plan accordingly.

Who all is definitely coming? Let's get a solid count for him.

I'm in (95% confidence). 2 outstanding details to work through (one being travel arrangements on the todo list for this weekend)
