Bails and I will be fairly close to you. We will be about an hour from steam boat springs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just a question, friends: What about water..should I bring a water filter. Or there is a potable water source near the camp?
It has always been a dream of mine to hunt elk with a bow. Unfortunately I can't make it this year. But hopefully next year the same invite will be offered. I will try my best to join y'all then. Thanks.
Will will purchase bottled water to drink but bring a filter so you can refill a bladder in a stream. Last thing you want to do is carry enough water for an all day hunt when you can refill a smaller container throughout the day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Oscar, I will have bottled water on hand, plus I usually fill up a few 55 gal drums with stream water. The stream will get boiled. I will pick you up at the airport on the 15th, You will stay with me until we pick Lionel up the next day. Remember guys, I am a working stiff. Please arrange your travel for pick up later in the day and during the week if possible. There are a lot of logistics getting this camp set up. I need the weekends to travel and hunt. If you fly in on a Saturday or Sunday. you may be sitting at the airport for awhile! Start learning how to make a primitive fire with only native materials...we're going to have a competition! As far as food, I will have "grab as you go" morning stuff. I usually have plenty ofhot water available for instant coffee-bring your own press if you want. Lunch is on the guys that make it back to camp. I will have stuff available..... Dinners will be sort of prepared in advance, or made quickly when we arrive back for the evenings. The menu consists of things like: Burgers, chips, and beans Spaghetti Chicken vegetable and rice soup Elk Chili Beef stew Shredded BBQ pork sandwiches Red beans and rice ETC. I will have a grill, cooking stoves, pots and pans available....if your taste buds need your personal touch. If you are driving...bring a cot and sleeping bag. I will provide them for the guys flying in. Any alcoholic beverage is on you. I will have an AR on hand for the folks that haven't shot one and would like to. I will also have a small chest freezer available...We can take elk/deer farther south if we need to cold store them. Rex is coming...hide your women!
I'm all jacked up for my elk trip this year and it still a little ways off. Since it's my first year out I've elected to go 2nd rifle season rather than bow. Both have challenges I've been told. Most of the elk will be far off the beaten path so I hope to hike as far as I can and set up a camp and then hike further back. Gonna be in unit 78 north of Pagosa Springs. I hear it's pretty rocky so I'm doing my best to get in decent shape. Hope you bow guys have a great trip and the next time I make the trip from Ohio I will trade out the 30.06 for my Matthews.
In 25 days I'll be hopping in the car and heading to Colorado. I truly hope that all you first timers have a fantastic experience at camp. This camp has sparked a fire for elk hunting in several guys and you could be next. Just be careful because it's worse after you have experienced it. I dream elk all the time and wish I could have gone last year! Go into camp expecting to see awesome scenery and meet some incredible people, harvesting an elk will be icing on the cake. It's not easy (unless your name is Matt ). Dave and I plan on stopping by. Hopefully we get lucky early and can swing in for a few days! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'll be wishing you guys all the luck my friend....I expect a text immediately by the way....be safe have fun and knock one down! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
