Our OTC archery tags are only good for cows or spikes in this unit. So horns are neat but not our target. Not yet.

Oscar. email me your flight intinerary [email protected]. We will get your tag as we travel

I will pick you up and you can stay with me until we head to the mountains
    Chris, same thing with you....
Christine, any elk with a bow is a trophy! Cows are harder to take than the stupid old bulls hell bent on sowing their oats!

    Hi Guys,
Please allow me to introduce my self. My name is Tony. I am:
a new big game hunter and this will be my first season bow hunting 2nd rifle .(I did take a 4 point buck last season backpack hunting)
upland bird hunter with pointing dogs gsp and gwp (love my babies)
    Avid backpacker.
I am having a hard time not thinking about all things elk hunting and bows. I should have never pick up a bow.
I was refer to this group/elk camp by a member on Rokslide forum. I would like to join you. Please let me know if that is possible. If you have any questions please let me know.
    Thank you
    Tony

Hey Tony! Welcome to the site. I am the one who reached out to you. If you want to go to this camp all you have to do is show up. Read through the thread and if you have any questions at all don't hesitate to ask. Lots of us are more then happy to help. That is what this camp is all about, getting new hunters a solid jump start to the mountain hunting world.

Thank you again for the invite. I just want to make sure of the dates and the unit. Unit 45 from September 17th or 18th-25th.
Can you send/pm me the directions to camp. If I decided to go a week earlier does anyone want to hunt with me. I would probably be there on the Monday the 12.
    Thank you
    Tony

August 1st...that means we're getting closer!

I was lucky enough to spend some time in Colorado and RMNP last week with my whole family (parents/siblings/spouses/kids)...weather was perfect and we had a blast each day in the mountains. I could get used to that summer weather, warm and dry during day, cool and sweatshirts at night. I already miss the mountains.

We did get to see a few large groups of elk which were fun to watch...and mule deer. Had some great family hikes and cookouts in the mountains. Got some workouts in as well and a few good runs. Especially enjoyed a nice trail run one morning with my Brother and BIL up to a waterfall...running trail in the mountains is so much fun compared to running paved streets in IL:( My heel injury I've been nursing is probably at 90% now and I'm thankful.

Time to get serious with shooting bow more...and keep the workouts going. Need to round up gear soon as well...I'll be ready to put some miles on my boots - just need that one elk in range:)

Still need to finalize plans here...but most likely we'll be rolling into camp Sat morning to late morning.

Excellent! Best of luck to you both. I'm hoping to get a pic texted to me at some point with a dead elk in it;)

Like Dan said, our first evening of hunting will be 14th, from thereon, we'll be in the backcountry and hot on the heels of Elk. You'll be kept up to date with our progress Matt, as and when we have cell reception.

Matt, I could not be more excited at this moment, my gear is packed, broadheads are tuned, I'm feeling on top of the world and ready for Elk Country. I have nothing but positive thoughts for this trip, if it's not me that gets an Elk, I hope it's one of my friends, I really don't mind as long as we get one......... 6 weeks tomorrow and I'll be flying out, stay safe and shoot straight  #elkfit

Google says ~90-120 miles depending on route or 2+/- hrs
