Thank you Iamyourhuckleberry. I am considering it. You know, I used to live in Fort Collins when I went to grad school at CSU, but my family lived in Illinois so I moved back here. And I wish I hadn't. I might be thinking about next year, unless some unforeseen good fortune comes my way real soon.
Well Guys, I'm all ready and packed "I ain't kidding either", got all my gear out and checklisted everything other than food. Fitted it all in the bag , as i'm now using the Kuiu 5200, I wanted to find a place for everything and fitting 6days of food ain't gonna be a problem. I know I'm not in the camp for the first few days, but I will go all out to get there with a punched tag before you leave. I've got Will's and Matt's cell numbers and will keep them updated on our progress....... 49 days and its go time again, from UK to USA .... not that I'm counting Excited is an understatement!
You are such a child.... I pity the fool who has to share camp with you..... Oh wait... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well now I had to bust out the gear and go through the once again. Have almost everything purchased. Only thing missing besides a few pieces of clothing is my sleeping bag. Can't wait! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hello all, I'm the Newbie that Bails spoke of earlier. What dates is the camp running from??? I've already booked flights to Denver int. As I was going to DIY it buy Andy and Bails have convinced me for my first time out it would be good to have help on hand. I'm a serving Commando so the exercise and gear avenues are covered but Local knowledge and time served experience is always important. I'll Pm Iamyourhuckleberry now but what date does camp start. I spotted earlier that its Unit 45 so i'll pay my tag tonight to pick up at Bass Pro in Denver the morning after I land. Really looking forward to this, not only is it my first Elk hunt but Its only my second time bowhunting. I've never taken a animal yet but fingers crossed we can change that on this trip. Chris.
Will or others, perhaps a stupid question, but do y'all do 'community' meals or is it more byo? [Ed] Or to clarify, Dan mentioned Will provides some food...just trying to translate that... do I knock 2 dinner meals off the plan, 1 breakfast and a dinner? I've procrastinated on meal planning... TIA
All the food is provide for the most part. There is stuff for breakfast that gets set out to grab before you head out and a nightly meal is cooked. Lunch isn't made because everyone is usually on the mountain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The list (add you name via cut and paste): Iamyourhuckleberry (Will) Paul Seward (local) Michelle Marks (local) One or two other locals Lionel Paul Berthault (from France) wl704 (Bill-just to make things confusing with Will) Oscar Munoz (from Spain)
Finally I have my flight tickets, I´ll be in Denver International Airport on Thursday Sep 15th at 5.35pm. What is the best for me? to buy the elk tag when I´m there or better online?
Hey Chris, great to see you on here, will generally sets up the camp the week before everybody gets there I think, so you may be ok to get in as soon as you land. I'll see if Will is doing the same this year, it'll give you time to acclimatise and get out hunting straight away, listen to what Will tells you and you cannot go wrong, he's successfully killed more Elk than I've probably seen in my 4 trips together. You will get all the help needed at camp, you'll probably be partnered with somebody at first to help you along with gaining experience like spotting sign, what to smell, listen out for and where to look, this Camp is the only reason I got so hooked on Elk. Will or one the regulars normally get he evening meal started,, but it's a team thing and everybody generally helps out with camp chores like, cooking, tidying up, camp fires. If burritos are not provided for breakfast, believe me, there will be enough food and such to put some thing together for breakfast and lunch..... If you get there early, you may need to take a little food to carry yourself over till everybody starts filtering in. You'll be provided with a cot to sleep on and everybody is up and about around 4am, to get in the hunting area for daybreak. You'll meet some awesome pepole, some of which I class as dear friends. If Troy comes from Aussie land, you'll also have entertainment Believe me, you will get all the help you need to get yourself hooked on Elk. Keep an eye out for Matt and his crew to roll in, talk to him, pick his brains, he's gotten good at killing Elk in a short time
