I got 17k steps hiking around yesterday. Managed to wipe out on steep loose gravel. Now I have a boo-boo in my knee and holes in my knickers. Bah humbug.

Went up into higher dark timber today. Saw a few elk. Could smell them before you see them. One let out a small bugle, which I thought was weird.

Put out a trailcam and didn't put any new holes in myself, so that's a win. :)

Okay, who drew what? I received a deer and bear licenses. The elk tag comes OTC. I'm excited! We will have a Frenchmen in camp this year! That means the English (not sure why we call them that? they don't speak the language), the Aussies, and the yanks will be hard at it bantering while the french steal our wine and women. And now that I'm back from Africa, it time to whip this old butt into shape! We may have a south African in the lot as well. We'll see....

Will, my buddy Shaun got a mule deer tag, rest of us will have elk tags.
Always a nice bonus when you have the international mix...looking forward to it!

Looks like I'll be traveling with my parents and brothers/sisters families up to RMNP this summer...so should at least get a mountain and elk fix...unfortunately not getting anywhere close to elk camp.

I've got a good feeling about some tagged animals in camp this year...

Glad Rob will be in camp...there's a big muley out there with his name on it.

Rexy better have a good excuse if he misses camp...he's got the tracking dog!

You mean that one unit on that certain mountain in Colorado? Just beyond that one rock and that patch of trees?

    Never heard of it.

Dave - how about you guys just tag out quickly and make your way down to 45? :)

Will you have any way to communicate with our group via cell phone text or FB messenger? I'll be curious as heck on how you guys are doing...
...plus I could radio you guys our way if we're being run over with elk and have one tied up for you;)

I've been haunted this whole off-season by the bull I spent 45 minutes inside bow range on last year while he was bedded...still kicking myself for not just going for it and making a move through the loud blow downs...I played it safe to see if he would get up and come my way - sure enough he rose and walked straight away. He was a beauty...just another lesson learned.

Threads been too quiet again...so I've got some questions:
-looking at travel options. Last I checked with Pat he was tentative...if I need to fly I was looking at Eagle/Vail but didn't see a (big) local sporting goods store that I can pick up last minute supplies (like Iso for my jetboil). Am I better off looking at Denver?
-Getting to the camp, is it truly 4wd roads (or can I get away with a cheaper rental if I need to rent a vehicle)
-What should I >Not< bring (i.e. Will provides)?
-Thought I read earlier some $ is collected up to offset cost of things Will provides (I need to set expectations with the boss...married folks probably understand :) )
-Any bugs (skeeters/ticks) to worry about this time of year/altitude?

Thanks (and if you're on the East coast (Southeast to be more exact) seriously considering this trip, PM me.)

I drove my prius to camp and up some of the mountain roads. The main mountain roads are nicer than many paved illinois roads.

If you want to go on the rough stuff, ride with Will, just think twice about letting him drive. Heh heh heh.

I forgot to pay Will (sorry!) But I did give him 1400 rounds of .22 ammo.

Still feel bad about not chipping in tho'.

I saw no ticks or mosquitos.

Do not bring junk food. Will's camp is secretly put on by insulin manufacturers. ;)

I still don't think I'll make it to camp but Utah is consistently not giving me any tags.... I might show up at camp just so I don't have hunting withdrawl.

Conspiracy! Your husband probably picked up a couple tags, right?

Actually, we (husband and John Mueller) applied as a group so none of us pulled tags. I had two doe antelope points so I probably would have pulled that tag if I applied separately. .sniffle...cry...

Mueller blames me for the bad luck. Heh
