Well overall this waterfowl season has been a bust for us. I was able to kill my first duck and then some but with the unseasonably warm temperatures the ducks just didn't make it down soon enough. Season is still in for about another week but our hole has been froze up since about a week ago. Figures it would freeze up about the time we finally get a good push of ducks lol.

Close call yesterday! Started out great. Had a short boat ride and quick set up. Tucked the boat blind in and we were set. Not the best setup for the wind but we had a ton of ducks beached up near by and we knew we were going to get into them. Ended up getting a 4 man limit. Mixed bag of mallards, teal, cans, and few other divers. In the last 30 min the wind picked up and it started getting ROUGH! Carlyle lake is the biggest lake in Illinois and it gets rough quick cause it's so shallow. Our motor stalled and while working on motor we didnt realize we spun head on into the rollers. By the time we realized how much water was in the boat we were going down. It happened that fast. We barely made it back. Swimming in 32 degree water in waders and big cold weather clothes isn't fun. Somehow we survived. We Were not wearing life jackets like idiots. Been hunting that lake for a long time and this has never happened. What an eye opener. We recovered the boat today. Lost a lot of gear but everyone is ok. I'm good with that. Lesson learned was We should have left sooner when we noticed it getting rough and our boat was a bit overloaded. Be careful out there everybody

Good to hear you made it out safely. One reason I prefer field hunting over water is a lot less can go wrong.

Glad you made it out ok. We took the wrong turn around an island a few years ago and about swamped my boat. We may it out ok. It sure made me watch the conditions alot closer after that.

Few others...Hen and Drake Mallards and a Snow Goose. Stoked about the Snow Goose, we don't get many if any around this part of NY. Know only one old timer hunting around here for the past 40 years plus and he has only shot one so its def a rare occurrence. I hope more will fly in!!! Usually have to travel further upstate or to other states for them.

We got our greenhead limits in about 45 minutes this morning. The best time of the year is here!
