Unless you are trying to get the whole herds population back up, then that number isn't bad. Especially considering that a number of units are buck only. If you want to see a better balance in more populated areas, they could always implement an earn-a-buck. But that also pisses people off. ... of course, not matter what they do, they piss people off.
Ha yeah people are never satisfied, including me! They could do a modified earn a buck, raise the price of a buck tag $10 but if you shoot a doe you get that $10 back some how. I would just like to be able to shoot 5-10 does off our farm and still be able to hunt for a buck. We have access to about 700 continues acres of 60-40 AG/habitat with plenty of deer for our group (about max of 10) to each shoot a doe and half of us shoot a buck. I think our little region of MN has very strong deer numbers due to the mix of AG and habitat. Give people freedom to shoot a doe! if someone think their land doesn't have enough deer they don't have to shoot a doe. I wish more Management responsibility would come from the hunters themselves Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I need to find person or two that I trust to come shoot a doe off of my land. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
There is a guy in my area that has a lot of say in how people hunt. He didn't gain it by being a pushy either. He is the guy that knows where all the deer are in the area and takes friends and kids hunting with him, teaching them how to hunt. He has permission or can get permission almost everywhere because he is related to the owner or has been good to them and they are friends. When he takes his friends and the young kids hunting he teaches them how to manage the local herd. Basically tells them what bucks they should shoot and what not. If you don't follow his suggestion, he doesn't take them any more. Now, there are guys that don't hunt with and kill what ever they want but what he has taught the community has dramatically increase the quality of hunting in that area. He shoots big bucks and he helps others shoot big bucks. It didn't happen over night but he has proven to them by showing them that it does work. So hunters properly managing the local herd is possible.
I disagree. I think they would be mad but after a few years when Minnesota is back on the map for giant public land whitetails. They will come back. It would be like it your wife said she wasn't making her special cookies until she had enough to for her and the kids. After that she had enough would share with you again. You would gladly share cookies with them again.
