Without going into a lot of details, it was in the works long before the testing article came out. There are always three sides to a story. His, the manufacterers, and the truth.

Think what you want but as much as this site looks like a Mathews Forum I would say its a safe bet they get free bows every year. If not, they get them at a significantly reduced cost.

Why do you feel it's necessary to point that out? I think everyone realizes they are sponsored by Mathews?

I have nothing at stake in this conversation and have been affiliated with a different company's Pro Staff for years.........but I still feel your comments are way out of line.

This site is a public facing forum but it's also BH.com's place of business and livelihood. For you to call Justin's character out publicly due to him providing feedback on a new bow seems pretty distasteful.

In my opinion Mathews bows get the job done obviously if you ever even watch BHOD, and if you do you would see that they have every right to get free or discounted bows! They put out an awesome show that thousands of people watch, what bow company wouldn't want to be apart of that?!

When did I call anyones character out? I just pointed out the fact that he HAS to say the bows are the best out there....nothing more, nothing less. He's the one trying to insult me because of my username...like that really matters!

I totally agree! I still have the Switchback XT myself. I fault no-one for making a living but just pointed out that you have to take the word of anyone who's a prostaffer or sponsored with a grain of salt. Don't flock like sheep to the sheepherder! Try them all and decide which ones best.

This thread is getting pretty funny.. I don't think anyone was calling anyone's character out in the least. No one has said that Mathews bows would not get it done...lol.

Think, I'm a sponsored shooter for hoyt and get no free stuff. Although I do get a substantial discount but far from free and I was shooting hoyt long before I got on staff.

I was just pointing out that SOME staff don't get free stuff.

I'm sure this site staff does better than most with their sponsorship but I'm fairly certain they wouldn't be a shooting mathews if they didn't believe in their product since they have been with them for quite some time.

No he didn't, he could choose to remain silent on that particular bow.

Genius! Pure marketing genius. Build a boat anchor (or in this case ship anchor) to make the rest of this years line up look better. This thing will appeal to the Mathews base but I don't think it will draw in to many new customers. It goes against every way the industry is going. Now believe it or not, this is not a dig on the Mathews brand so don't get all butt hurt on me. This thing is laughable no matter who builds it. You have to remember, its not the bow that makes the shooter look good. Its the shooter that makes the bow look good. Oh and hats off to anyone shooting a discounted or free bow no matter what the brand. Those damned things are expensive these days!

Man, I should've checked in on this thread earlier! Stupid work always getting in the way of fun.

First off let's start with some clarification.

    1. Yes, I get a single bow for no charge although as we know nothing in life is really "free".
    2. This year I got an HTR in Stone Tactical. I love it. Although I am considering getting a Lost OT version because I think that pattern looks great. I will have to pay for that one.
    3. I asked if I could get a Wake for free and got laughed at.
    4. I don't HAVE to say anything other than the basic specs of the bow that everyone already knows. Nobody has ever told us, pressured us, or even suggested that we say anything about their bows or products that we don't believe.
    5. I would never say anything about a Sponsor product I didn't truly believe. If the product happens to suck or have problems (which has happened) I simply keep my mouth shut. I've said for years its more important to pay attention to what I don't say than what I do say.

Now let's get back to the Wake. During a Q&A interview with Matt McPherson on Tuesday afternoon he told everyone that he built the Wake simply because he could. Everyone's always whining that Mathews bows aren't fast enough or that they want another great speed bow so he decided if he was going to do it he was going all out and building basically the Maserati of bows. I don't think you can get an accurate feel for the bow until you hold it and see it side by side with another bow and see simply how substantial this thing is. From the riser to the limbs, limb pockets, etc the thing is literally a tank. This is all by design. Matt wanted to build a bow that was structurally as strong as possible throughout the entire thing and that's what he did. Yes, it's heavy. Yes, it's big. Yes, it's unforgiving. Yes, it's expensive. And yes, they know they aren't going to sell a pile of them. Wake sales will likely account for less than 5% of Mathews bows sold this year.

Again, this isn't the average guy's bow. It's truly for the person who wants to own what many consider the best speed/power bow out there. This is for the guy who wants to pull his bow out of the case on the range and have other people leering at it out of the corner of their eye or come up to ask questions about it.

If given the choice between hunting with my HTR or the Wake I'm taking the HTR 10 out of 10 times. However if I had the money to spare I'd love to have a Wake. In my opinion it's one of the coolest looking bows on the market and really does shoot very nicely. I'd love to have one just to shoot it occasionally and maybe take it to the woods a couple times. However I don't have an extra 2K laying around to simply have a "toy" bow so I most likely will never own one.

It was released less than a week ago. How can it already be considered the best speed bow out there? I would rather get a full throttle which is already a nice shooting bow and add some stabilizers and weights and have a bow that is almost lighter than a bare wake, faster and more brace? Now that sounds like the best speed bow.
