So 2014 ended in much different style than I expected. I woke up on 12/30 @ 9:30 with a little pressure on/in my stomach area. Started putting Christmas decorations away and the pain just kept getting worse. Finally about 11 or so I told my wife to take me to the urgent care facility nearby. By the time we got down the road a ways, I told her never mind, just go to the ER. By 2:00 I was in the ER getting seen and getting some serious pain meds cause the pain was HORRIFIC! I've broken my share of bones and bruised ribs but I've never felt anything like this before! By the way, Dilaudid is some GOOD STUFF! (by the way, I can see how people loose it in the waiting area. I was in so much pain I could have punched someone without a second thought) The doc pushed around on my stomach and said I think it's your appendix. I had to drink this nasty powder mix for a CT scan of my stomach and by 3:30 the doc said your appendix is the problem, lets get it out a there. By 5:00 I was in surgery and woke up getting wheeled to my room. Wife an kids were there waiting for me. The best part was the next day was 12/31. The on call doc was in my room at 8:00am telling me I could go home. So if that's any indication, try to get out of the hospital on a holiday, the doc will be there first thing in the morning. The second best thing was I got out of putting all the Christmas decorations away. My son came up so he helped my wife do all the work while I watched football from the couch. The worst was we had to cancel our New Year's party we planned. Hopefully your new year was more fun and painless Edit: I have a pic the doc took during the surgery of my appendix if anyone is interested. I know most of us gut deer but a person might be different for some people.
Hillbilly, I feel your pain man. I know how much that appendix stuff hurts and I wish you a speedy recovery. Mine burst when I was 30. Sat out in the waiting room for nearly an hour. I literally laid on the floor because I was burning up and I was in so much pain.
I had mine out back in 1990 when I was 15. They were still doing conventional intrusive surgery at that time so I was in the hospital with a big stitched cut in my side for a week...that sucked. Cutting through all the muscles in that area, I never was the same in sports after that. Glad to hear you got through it and are recovering anyway.
Glad you could make a quick recovery. Never had an appendix problem but my rattlesnake bite took my pain experience to a whole new level. That was excruciating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My son had his out when he was 7 or so. I think the worst part for him was the gas build up in his gut after the surgery. Glad your feeling better.
Thanks everyone! Ya it was very painful. They fill your stomach up with air during the surgery so when you're done, you fart a lot and have pain in your shoulders! Weird but the air has to go somewhere is what they said. At least it didn't happen during hunting season!
Getting better by now I assume... and it's a good thing it happened when it did. Your insurance deductible was probably already met... saving you some out-of-pocket money - hehe.
