Got the Sawyer mini this summer for the overnight trip my wife and I did...that little thing is awesome for how small and light it is. We both had a water bladder, once one was empty I could dip it in stream and Sawyer snaps right in place of the Camelbak bite valve...then I'd hang it in tree and let gravity drain it into other bladder (or could drink right through filter if wanted). It is a little slow, but still think the 70oz filtered in under 2 min. For cocktails that night in the hot springs we had filtered water, raspberry drink mix, and vodka...fantastic I have to head home by Friday in order to coach football Saturday A.M. Even last year when it rained everyday, it never ruined a day of hunting. Just like whitetails, a little rainy weather seems to be better for game movement...IMO, better to have a little rain everyday then blue skies for a week. Same thing happened to Scottie/New Zealand in 2010...and I can verify because we had only been split up for maybe 5 minutes (he was just downhill from me). Bull and 2 cows came from above, I pulled my range finder out to get a yardage in the first open shooting lane - I was shaking so bad I couldn't get a reading so I just said 40 yards. I was going to shoot the lead cow even with nice bull behind her...just as I'm putting tension on my string to draw wind blows from behind me and cows put their nose up, bark, and head directly down hill with bull right on them. I remember thinking that they'll have to almost run Scottie over...didn't meet up until dark when he tells me the jambalaya from night before got the best of him, bull ran by at 10yds and his bow was sitting 5 yards the other way Worse part is that we just had that discussion in camp the night before...ALWAYS be ready
Man, the weekend flew by! I washed my hunting clothes, shot the bow, went through my gear again and bought some last minute stuff. Also did a few last minute things for deer season that will be opening October 1st. I hung a camera behing my house yesterday, won't be checking it until I get back from Colorado.
I went to my father in laws and got a dozen more arrows, a spare release to match what I'm shooting now, and a montanna elk decoy. I also stopped at walmart and got 120 tortillas, 120 eggs, lots of bacon, sausage, jalepenos, and cheese and picked up a brighter head lamp. Got my pickup all cleaned out, brought the generator home from the ranch and will be loading everything up Friday night and hope to head out by 4 a.m. Saturday. This week can not go fast enough
In (3) days that bucket list I have been carrying around gets a little lighter. Colby, I checked and stil have (48) 1/4 pound deer burgers frozen from the processor. Would these be good to bring for camp?
Yeah we can grill them one evening when we do hamburgers and hot dogs Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
I'm going to bring a bunch of smoked venison sausage. It will be good to throw on the grill with the burgers. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I spent last week tiling around new bath tub, and last night laying first row of floor tile, hope to finish tonight, grout Tuesday, and get sink & toilet installed Wed...guess I'll pack Thurs And yes, I started clearing tearing bathroom out at end of April - don't think I'll be starting a remodel business anytime soon. The good thing is that I've refined by list over the years (and have it saved on Excel)...I can be ready to leave for Elk Camp in an hour flat any day of the year... The best part is my good buddy Matt that has went the last 3 years with me is dropping off his trailer this week with his wall tent, canopy, fireplace, grill, and space heater (he can't go this year with taking new job)...now that's a good buddy!!! His Dad is making a return trip with us though...we'll be sure to text Matt daily pictures to rub it in... A week off work sounds fantastic right now...but mostly I just can't wait to be slipping through the mountain woods on high alert...hunting elk is just something I need.
Hunting clothes are in the wash with Bicarbonate soda as we speak, once they have been put into the Badlands Terra Glide, that's me done. 2 more days at work and its time to catch my 777 to DIA and meet up with my ow'd mucka Will. Little bit of last minute shopping at Bass Pro for a Rangefinder and other bits. Stuck 6 arrows in the target and packed everything away, its that time of year again........ huckleberry Elk camp here I come! Damn there's gonna be some food at the camp, gonna have meat sweats for a week
I got to pack a few more clothes amd continue to shoot my bow each day. Wednesday I'll go pick up my parents car amd pack it up. Then on Thursday I'll get to work early and bust my *** all day so j can leave home by about 7 or so. Can't wait to be in the middle of the mountains with bow in hand!
I have my bags packed, my hunting clothes packed. Just gotta pack some camp/travel clothes and load up my pickup. Is it friday yet?
Tonight I'm packing everything up so I can spend time with the family the next 2 nights. Frenchbritt and I are leaving Thursday evening, I'm like a kid on Christmas eve
That sucks. Hopefully they can get you fixed before time to leave. Do you have a backup bow or one you could borrow?
Going to the Whiskey Shop tomorrow to get a bottle for Camp, gotta have something ready to celebrate brown going down , see'y'all Soon!
He said he would have them by Wednesday or he will pull stock limbs off one they have. So I'm not too worried I'm just glad I caught it now. Gonna shoot first thing when I get there on Saturday though.
