2014 Colorado Archery Elk Hunt Invite

Some guys do the gut less method. I'm not good at it so I still gut my game.

 

If you see any elk along 24 on drive in, make note, that is all Unit 45.

Waid is right though - personally I wouldn't want anyone in my ride to miss the drive down down 24...actually from just west of Denver to camp is the best part of the trip...

Cash always good for emergencies (flat tire, stalled car, etc)...also keep some on you while hunting, could be difference in hitching a ride or walking back 10 miles if you get off course.

I've only seen gutless used, getting tenderloin out is a little tricky...

 

I like everything about the gutless method except getting the tenderloin. I have a hard time cutting what I can't see. Might be easier on an elk than little does though.

 

The problem we've had each time is trying to keep all the dang guts from coming out the incision you are working in while reaching/cutting for tenderloin. Elk have a WHOLE LOT of guts!

You guys talked me into it! I'll drive 24 at first light! Might be beneficial if I see elk as well!

Chop, do what you can to get that Either Sex Tag, you will be gutted if a Bull shows up. 3 times I have eaten tag soup, but on all 3 Elk Camps I have had an opportunity. You won't go without at camp trust me , just bring what you can.

 

Very true! The only way for someone to tell if you missed a curve is if they heard the echo of your truck smashing into the bottom of the valley...or maybe a lil puff of smoke.

 

This makes me want no rain at camp. Had to work in it this afternoon. It was a blast.

They are predicting wetter and cooler than normal conditions this year from the sounds of what guys up there have been saying that is exactly what is happening

 

Could be good for elk movement? It's still better than work.

All the mule deer I've seen up there had already shed

 

You guys mentioned the mountain roads earlier. Will we have any problem getting around in a front wheel drive car? Just talked to FB and he has me wondering if we should carry an extra set of brake pads and rotors :D

 

what do you guys use for a binocular harness, or do you carry them in your pack unless you glass?
