I apologize for the repeats. It's my first time on the site and I'm not the most tech savvy guy.
And I'm hoping/planning to not be in the creek again. It's Waid's turn.

We should be there the morning of the 20th.
I don't mind fetching water this time.
I just applied for my tag. It's $374 total for the tag, stamp and application fee.

I can already tell this is going to be fun! I need to figure out a better shower system. That will be my summer project.

Looks like we'll have at least four Aussies in the mix. These blokes are as get as they come. Looking forward to meeting them!

Christine, it will be a pleasure to finally meet you! And yes, I tried the deer only gig last year (since my season was cut short by a trip to Newfoundland). Naturally, Mr. Murphy placed elk in my way for two weeks. I had several early shots on does, which I passed. One dandy buck gave me the slip. I settled on a doe the last day before I left for Newfie. I am saying, DEFINITELY get a deer tag!

Fellas, Will's generosity with this camp cannot be matched. While I have never met him, I have had numerous conversations with him over the years while on the same team, and in preparation for making it out west this September. He is the true definition of what hunting is all about.

I was all in for this up until about a week ago, and had already penciled it in, when I got bad news on the work front. The short story is, there is a very good chance I will be taking a large pay cut in the near future, putting my future with the company and current employment in doubt at the moment, and also any hunting plans I had for the upcoming season. I'm not going to rule anything out completely as I already have nearly all the gear bought, but until I figure out what I am going to do, it pains me to say I cannot commit fully at this time.

In a perfect scenario it all works out here, or I move on elsewhere soon and am sitting around the fire this fall. I'd love the chance to meet many of you whom I have talked to over the years here.

Best of luck with your plans everyone, I'll be keeping tabs on this as the season nears!

How far do you guys hike up the mountain each day to find the good elk country? I am 90% sure I am getting a mule deer tag, I have not hunted elk or mulies so why not both in the same trip right. What kind of game bags do you guys get for hauling meat?

You can hike as far or close from the vehicle as you want or are comfortable with. I can't tell you how far we actually hiked in 2012 probably 3-4 miles.

As far as game bags I buy the Remington Big Game Processing package. It has 4 bags in it, they are disposable, and you can put more meat in them than you can carry. They are inexpensive and I get them at Wal-mart

I also have a Alaskan Guide frame pack.

Also if you know how to de bone game it saves a lot of weight. That is an area I'm lacking and will continue watching you tube bideos on.

Something light and weather proof. I really like the cabelas silent stalker sneakers $139.99. I just wore mine out and am ordering another pair. I also have a 800 gram pair if its colder but they are heavier and I dont wear them much. However I will if there is snow on the ground.

    Its all personal preference

I have to say I owe Will a big thanks for making me comfortable enough to fly in from Florida to make a dream come true to hunt these big CO Elk. Thank you Will and I hope to always make this yearly trek because of your hospitality.

Thanks again and see you in Sept I hope.
