I'm ready to leave now. I can't wait for a week in the mountains hunting elk, fishing, camping, drinking, and hanging out with other hunters. The weather has been cooler (except yesterday). The 20th can't get here fast enough.

I know you were just kidding but the smell of weed isn't in the air in Colorado. The law is still the law here. You get caught smoking weed in your car or out in public and the law will come down hard on you.

I'm probably kicking a hornets nest here, but frontal shots on elk. Yea or nay?

Yes, but only if you have smoked weed. ;)

No idea. Seems like a huge area.

Nay for me...but I've seen this argument play out plenty of times with around a 50/50 audience.

Can it kill them, yes...is it a wise shot in the heat of the moment, no.

Looking like I should be able to come out. Probably won't get final approval for a week ha.

Clothing is my biggest thing right now as I don't want to be miserable for 8 days. I'll probably have to rush ship my clothes too since the countdown is well, almost down.

I know that we're expecting cold weather to hot weather during the day, I'm a hot guy who sweats a lot so getting thick jackets while hiking won't be an issue. But are we expecting rain? If it does rain is it an hour of shower or something like Missouri where it just dumps on you?

Also may have been covered, is will providing laundry service? = ) trying to see how many pairs of whatever I need to bring

phoned the holy cross ranger station today with some questions...asked about any road closures, does not appear to be any this year that will impact us, but he did direct me to this website for road closures: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3800000.pdf
Thought the map might at least be handy for newb's to see a general layout of the major roadways around our unit.
He also said the road to reservoir just opened...it had been closed since our 2011 elk camp...

still forecasting low 60's/ low 40's next week at camp...looking good.

With 5 guys worth of crap and this heavy twin axle trailer of my buddy's...we'll be that suburban on Saturday doing about 10mph up the mountain passes on I-70...not looking forward to that when all I want to do is get to camp at that point...

There is a laundry mat where you can also rent a shower in Leadville. There is also a creek :)

used to be probably still is.

I won't get into the frontal shot thing that is a shooter, situation, animal awareness, distance, etc. Make that shot and people will say great shot some will bad mouth you for it. Mess it up and lots of people will give you a hard time. Thats every individual hunters opinion or option when the time comes.

In 40 degree weather? Is the water atleast warm?

Also, I bought some broadheads, will there be a place in camp to adjust my sight to them, or should I adjust my sight prior to arriving there?
