We went through the mountains and past area 45 this past Thursday, on our way to Arizona. We had new snow above 12,000 feet, lots of rain and fog down lower. Come prepared for the worst. It's easier to put on if you have it. It has been raining every evening-for a hour or so. Yes, camp is going up this coming weekend. Rex and the Aussie boys will be there to keep a eye on it.

You don't have the 14 day camp limit?

Ok so question of the day at least for me. I have been taking my Hunter safety online and with work the way it's been I am almost finished. Can I still get everything done? Course, card, elk tag before camp? Or am I screwed? Please help. Thanks I am really looking forward to going.

As long as you can get your hunter safety card or the number even I'm sure you can get a license and make it. You have at least 21 days

I got a copy of the Garmin Mapsource Colorado pack off Mark, it covers the whole of Colorado, I've got every Waypoint since 2010 saved on my Laptop. when I'm coming to Colorado, I transfer the waypoints and other points of interest back to my GPS, so I can revisit old Wallows and bedding area's to see if there is any fresh sign. It's worth getting for that reason alone.

I downloaded the colorado topo 2011 map of of gpsfiledepot.com. much better. Actually shows the mountains and water and a easy to read topo map wit different mountain names.

It may not be the best but it should work for my needs. Thanks for that website name.

I'm sure that's the same one I used - I'm happy with it, water sources are marked, most 4WD roads...and even private property (although very little in unit 45, still nice to know those along the major roadways). Hard to beat free.

I went dove hunting yesterday yet all I could think about was elk hunting. This hunt can't get here soon enough!

My brother in law and I went dove hunting yesterday as well. We limited out in less than two hours. The bad news is my pickup died 30 some miles from anywhere and now all I have is my motorcycle going to make it tough to haul a horse.

The good news is I will have lots of drove breasts for elk camp.

It will get fixed this week no biggy. Just got to haul it from the ranch to town. Its lasted a lot longer than it should but I refuse to make a payment the size of a house payment on a new pickup.

My pickup is a 2003 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 with over 240,000 miles. I treat it like a red headed step child and it keeps on going well did go. Probably just a fuel pump or fuel filter shouldn't break the bank by any means.

Sat in a blind Saturday morning over a water tank antelope have been coming into but didn't get a shot. So my antelope tag went unfilled this year. But I only went out 3 times.

Sunday morning we went and called coyotes. First stand I didn't like where we set up due to the sun and wind but I knew right where they were so we set up any way. Had 5 come in right off the bat and my brother in law shot the first one with a shot gun and I missed one that had winded us. Called 2 other places but nothing showed up.

I'm thinking of putting a 2" receiver on the Tactical Prius. (Yes, they make 'em for prii. Lol)

I could take my 3/4 ton Chevy. .. but round trip gas expense should only be about $70 with the TacPri. :) Would be about four times that with the truck. Plus my Chevy's AC is broken.

Here's all the stuff I crammed in the car on my last out of state hunting trip.

Hope your truck fix is cheap!

    Christine,

I think its smart to bring the prius for fuel mileage purposes. You shoul be able to get up to anywhere you want to hunt with it as the roads are pretty good until you get to the 4x4 jeep trails that you probably wouldn't even want to take your pickup up. Also you can always hop in with some one in camp and get a ride

Looks like you can really pack that puppy down. Cant wait to see antlers on top of it
