I get back from Afghanistan in early September. If I can get the wife to let me go for a few days this is an amazing opportunity. I'm stationed at Ft. Carson CO. I'm so ready to go walk in in the mountains with my bow.

How's everyone doing on the workouts? I had to sit out 2 weeks from walking and bike riding. Rolled my ankle playing full court basketball with my 18 year old son..... I'm getting around better so I'm hoping to get back at by the weekend.

Other than a couple hikes with my pack on I'm not doing much. But I think all the fence building ive been doing in this hundred degree heat is keeping me in pretty good shape. Lots of walking, driving steal posts, digging holes for wood post, etc

Wrestled a 400 pound steer to the ground yesterday and gave it a shot that got the heart rate up

I haven't been done anything other than moving hundreds of cases of product everyday. I feel good but will be hiking with the pack soon.

I run, I'm going to be doing more squats and lunges. The only thing that worries me is the lack of callous buildup in my feet

She's pretty good if she's getting her stuff before you do:)

I came back from my first Elk camp in 2010 totally addicted...my wife said you can go again next year if you remodel the kitchen/dining room (we'd been talking about it but I had no motivation)...I gutted the whole kitchen and dining room and taught myself to install cabinets, wood floor, etc.
Now currently I'm in the middle of a master bath remodel...used to be a small 30" shower that only I used...so she convinced me to move the wall out into our room a few feet to put a jetted tub in...again, using elk camp as motivation:)
It is taking me forever (about 3 month in right now), but tub is in and drywall finished hanging tonight. I've tiled floor, but never a bath surround so that will be a first also...should be done just in time to load up trailer for camp:)

Elk hunting provides some serious motivation at my house...

Ya she is. We just bought this house in February and already gutted the 3rd bedroom and redid it all.

Now this project will have new tile in the entry way, new paint and carpet in the living room and hallway, new trim throughout the entire house, and new paint in the dining room and kitchen.

Next on the agenda is to add a bathroom in the basement and then remodel upstairs bathroom. I'll use those projects for future hunts!

Are we going to have to have a work weekend at your house so you have time to go on the hunt? lol

I'm just starting to get a little more serious...last week was first time I ran or did stairs Mon-Fri. Should get workout in Mon-Thurs this week, then my Mom is taking whole family on trip the next week (prob take whole week off from workouts)...but starting that following week I only plan to get 5-6 workouts in each week until Sept 17th. I usually run 3-5 miles, or do 3-4 miles on stairmill, have done a few hikes with boots/pack but those will pick up more in Aug. Last summer I did a lot more weights or body weight, but just haven't gotten into that flow this year.
I'm still shooting 2 arrows almost every night...not much, but sure works for me...makes it almost instinct at this point.

Get some time in your boots as well - blisters are one of the quickest ways to slow you down...

Geez. You guys have some real slave drivers. Those are quite some remodel undertakings. Hardly seems equal to an elk trip.

Come on down! Lol. Living room will be done tomorrow minus the trim work. Other projects are going to wait till next year so I can use them for my next hunts negotiations!

I ran a couple miles the other day but put alot of miles in each week carting food for my job. I did a field archery shoot on Saturday that took 5 hours and shot another 3 hours the Wednesday before that. I will be doing more running now and trying to convince the wife I'm not gonna die on the mountain and to just relax.

Jealous of you guys, and wish I was still able to pull this off. I've been away from the boards for a while now, but have been lurking around following this thread when I have the time.

Best of luck to you guys, the countdown is narrowing down for you!
