Ah makes sense. Still 30% of what worked fine for many is awesome. They do have other sitka stuff for usually 40% off at camofire. It's also usually in the gore optifade patterb which is what we "need" for this trip.
How's everyone coming along with shooting their bows? Anyone shooting with their pack on yet? I have started shooting at least 2 arrows per day - most days it's 11:30 at night in the garage...but it's better than nothing and still builds the muscles and helps make it second nature. The more often you shoot, the better chance you have with an elk standing in front of you and your brain turns off - which can happen easily I think we've added 1 to our crew, so we'll be packing 5 of us into the suburban...
I haven't been shooting much yet. I plan on jogging with my pack on and have been putting in lots of miles walking building fence. Will probably start shooting this weekend Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
Can't shoot, bow is still out = \ hoping only 2 more weeks till it arrives so that I can hit it hardcore. Haven't even broken in my boots I gotta get on that. Still getting most of my gear together, sleeping bag, bag frame, rangefinder, gps and possibly clothes.
Did anyone else see that in Lesson 4 of the Elk University them talking about hunting unit 45? Good insight but our secret may be out Colorado Parks & Wildlife - Lesson 4
I had not seen that Andrew - good stuff...thanks for sharing. The one thing I like best about 45 is that even if the secrets get out, I think the terrain there is the great equalizer. There are plenty of areas both too steep or too thick for most to mess with...it does make me realize I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of that unit...so much ground!
There is so much ground there and like Matt says to rough for a lot of people Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
I found out real quick I was in that category as well Colby. Your right Matt. Thats a big unit with something for everyone.
I haven't gotten real excited about elk hunting until yesterday. I put my boots on and carried pack around. I got my map out of the holy cross wilderness area and my wife and I are planning a camping trip to home stake reservoir and i will get to do some scouting late August. I'm sure she will take lots of pictures so ill post them. I have to thank Matt because I showed my wife your camping pictures and it made her want to go camping there. That's great! I probably only spent an hour around Camp with my wife pointing out a few of the roads and peaks...I'd love to get in some late Aug scouting sometime...you know...if you go late enough in Aug...Elk opens Aug 30th Have fun and please share the pics! They were supposed to be done with the Reservoir work Nov '13, but the sign was changed to '14 when we were there...take a pic of reservoir if you can get up there, road was still blocked just before reservoir couple weeks back. I went up there in 2010 to take a look, but it has been closed 2011 to present... If you make a trip at all to Leadville, I'd recommend driving down to Turquoise Lake and get on the East to Northeast side...to stand on a sand beach and to have the view across the lake with Mt Elbert and Massive in the background was well worth the time. Enjoy your trip!
She really liked the picture of turquoise lake we may try to check it out. I will be there opening day of season but am not taking my bow because if I shot one my wife would skin me if we spent a day packing an elk out then she wouldn't let me in back at the end of the month for camp. Ive never really been into maps but have started to really like them. I just ordered a map of unit 45 also Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
Agreed. The first one was fun the other three were not. Hoping it makes it better when its my own. Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
We when in rifle season one year had three bulls down and were able to drive up to them and put them in the back of the pickup. That was on private land though and they were down on the flats Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
