Yeah it's not a huge deal. Just have to plan ahead before leaving home which maps you will need or bring the laptop and leave it in the truck. I wouldn't sweat it I just meant for others that haven't bought one yet that id prefer that feature.
I pulled up the camp sight on Colorado parks and wildlife map. You can see how it is literally right off the highway Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
Well, I wasn't planning on piecemealing my pack. But Kifaru had some weird discount thing going on. I got a High Camp bag for $221 shipped to my house in Highlander. If I remember correctly, it was $236 but during fathers day weekend when I added on the top lid (no volume) it made it somewhere around $276+shipping. Now I need a 24" bikini frame
I bought a cow call, the s4 gear retractable tether for my rangefinder, and another set of clearance camo. Was going to buy a dozen FMJ's but my daughter was freaking out so I just left the store. I am almost done shopping for this trip..... i think lol.
I just realized that Kifaru takes months to make. So now unless bikini frames go on sale in the next 2 weeks, I have to find a bikini frame used in the color I want with the size I need....
Not months. All of their stuff is usually one month out. I ordered my Bikini, 28 days later I had it. I ordered my nomad, 27 days later I had it. Stuff is top notch. I didn't mind waiting a month. I don't plan on ever buying a new frame again. Plus it's all USA made. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
That location has a place in my Heart, if I could be anywhere other than England, UK... It's No Name Road on the Tennessee Pass. Minturn or Leadvile would be my home
Will a cheap 2 way radio work well enough. I bought 2 18 mile radios and want to make sure they will be good enough.
Cancelled my Kifaru High Camp Highlander Bag order, buying it used off of someone for $40 less = ) Man someone was offering me Bikini Frame Coyote Brown High Camp 4800 for $500. Shouldve hopped on it! Debating on buying the used Leupold RX 750 with TBR for $179.
Fellas, just got back last night from 4.5 days in Colorado with the wife....10th anniversary trip - 3 years late Stopped by elk camp to show her where I disappear to each Sept, toured around Aspen, did our first ever overnight backpack hike to Conundrum Hot Springs, and spent our last day with the best host in CO at Will's Mountain Home...he truly has a slice of heaven there! Will try to put up a few pics later...I cannot get to CO enough...
Here are a few pics from CO last week... Here is photo of Mt of Holy Cross from a lookout near Vail, you can see the snow cross forming on the peak: Nothing special here for most to see - unless you've been to elk camp - no place I'd rather spend time each Sept then Camp No Name - doesn't look the same empty: A quick shot by a holding pond along Homestake Rd/creek...looking SW with Homestake Peak on the left: After lunch in Leadville, drove over to see Turquoise Lake - sure glad we did that...just gorgeous. You can get Beach and Mountains at the same time - I'll be taking the kids back to spend some time here: Wife and I did our first ever backpack overnight trip up to the Conundrum Hot Springs south of Aspen. Approx 9 miles up to 11,200 ft and there is a natural hot springs pool that was 100+ degrees, surrounded by snowy peaks. Even had the place to ourselves for a bit when we got in...as peaceful as it gets. At the TH: Views on hike up: Pic of hot springs looking back down valley. Soaking in the hot springs was worth every bit of the effort to hike in!: Took this to show the massive snow bank just steps behind our tent: Met up with Will on Saturday - can't thank him & his daughter enough for hosting us at his beautiful mountain home. I told him I'd like to see some wildlife - and he took us up to an awesome lookout point to do some glassing...wife took this pic of us glassing: Didn't take long to find the elk (cell phone pic through my scope)...70 elk on this hillside. Will also pointed out to me my first Mountain Goat - he was up near the snow on the top left mountain peaks on pic above - I never would have spotted him myself. I could waste days just sitting on this lookout and viewing wildlife! Just a great trip to CO, snowy peaks like I've never seen, mornings were 38-40 degrees and afternoons 75-80 with no humidity, didn't have a rain drop on us all week, it doesn't get any better than that...only about 2.5 months till return...with bow in hand this time...
A camp cup is recommended something you can drink out of and eat out of to cut down on trash. I will use my jet boil cup. We usually have disposable plates, cups, and utensils too. Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
Keeping trash to a minimum is key - although typically plasticware & paper plates available - perfect scenario would be bring plate, bowl, spoon, fork that you can wash & reuse all week.
Great pictures! Looks like the two of you had a great time. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
Matt looks like a great trip and great pictures. Ive lived in Colorado all my life and never been to any hot springs. I definitely need to do that. Hope your wife enjoyed your trip as much as you did Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
Colby - trip was great. This was our first trip away from the kids so wife was pretty nervous. When planning started we were going to Florida Gulf coast as she prefers the beach...then few months back she told me she'd rather do a Mountain trip and some things that we normally cannot do with little ones...you don't have to tell me Mountains twice! I'm not sure how someone could not enjoy all the small CO mountain towns. We had great food, hit a couple brewery's...Will even tried to get my suburban stuck on some 4WD roads, we had to fold the mirrors in to get through the Aspen's...but we made it One of things my wife enjoyed most was just sitting on Will's porch in the sun with mountain views...reading a book in peace in quiet As much as we enjoyed our time alone - we both cannot wait to take the kids back sometime to share a lot of these new areas we liked.
Sounds like a great trip Matt glad you both enjoyed it. Will be good to see you in September Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
