I can't remember exactly what elevation camp is at. Minturn is 7,861 ft. Vail is 8,022 ft. Red Cliff is at 8,750 ft. and Pando is 9,200 ft. Camp will be somewhere in that range.
I can maybe get a Rangefinder Leupold 750 with TBR for $175. I believe these are also waterproof. Jump on it and buy it used? I really want the Leupold 1000i TBR + DNA but I feel like that's more of a want than a need
Not quite sure the age of all of you or physical shape. But I had to hike up 5k elevation to 13k in 3 hours, didn't receive altitude sickness, sure did regret not eating breakfast. Though elevation sickness effects us all differently, I think being in good physical shape (probably cardio) will help your body to rapidly adjust and not feel sick. On the flipside, put me in the ocean on a boat and im puking within an hour.
I moved from 500 ft elevation to 5300 ft. Every time I made a trip out here, I went up to the higher elevations and never had any issues other than sucking air. And I'm old and fat.
I'm 29 have a beer gut and dont work out much other than physical labor Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
Driving up to the top of pikes peak kicked my butt once I was up at the top. I live at 1000 ft though and that was my first mountain experience 2 years ago. It's kinda weird when u can't even talk.
Im 29 with a gut too lol. I know i won't be where i want to be by the time this trip rolls around but I'm hoping to be in the best shape that i can be in with the time i have. I know I'll be a little slow on the hills and will be sucking wind but I'm excited and know i can adjust.
Don't worry, my shooting which could arguably be more important probably wont be where I want it to be. It still isn't in my hands and I may have to buy a backup so that I can start shooting now and hit it hard until the day comes.
My Garmin GPS 62, another pair of Sitka pants, my goretex silent stalker boots, and my MSR mini water filter came in today. I also got a new diaphram for cow calls and to use with my bugle. Now just waiting on my jet boil to get here. I started organizing my new pack how I want it to see if I will have room for everything. So far so good.
Is Garmin 62 a good GPS I see Cabelas has them on sale right now, also what kind of sitka pants did you get? I was debating between the mountain pants or the timberline pant.
I got the moutain pants. I can't remember what my other two pairs are. I know nothing about GPS. I got this because it had good reviews, on sale and not to complicated looking. It has a camera which is pretty cool. I just needed something to mark the pickup, my route, wallows, down game, etc. Anything that will acuartely point back to my pickup in the dark.
Ok a little research on my GPS reveals it does not accept micro SD cards. I was looking at putting Hunt Colorado by X Maps on my gps. It says it is compatible if I download to my PC then transfer to GPS with the provided cord. The cost of it is $109. It shows private and public land boundries. I'm looking into it further to see if its worth the $100.
On x maps are amazing.... Completely changes computer scouting. If I was you, I'd buy the regional map for the GPS... Same detail as the state map on private vs public only it doesn't list the actual land owners names. I've found this unimportant while actually in the field. If you want landowner names for before hand, buy the google earth map for $40 for whatever state you want to have landowner names over top the aerial view. The combo offers the best of both worlds except you now have FOUR states on your GPS vs only one.
I have the white tail collection because they look cool...apparently there is more than a pattern difference between Big game hunting and white tail, as in the material is also different. I may sell mine once they get here next week and turn around pick up more sitka or kryptek. hmm, im going to look for GPS that someone has bought who has it installed.
Dont know who Donnie Vincent is, but check out his video. It's not hunting elk nor is it Colorado, but awesome video nonetheless. Im guessing his sponsor is Kuiu, but that's just a guess. https://www.facebook.com/followdonnievincent
He probably got free gear from them but I'm not aware of them sponsoring any hunters to promote their gear. Could be wrong. Kodiak is a special place for sure, can't wait to go back! As far as the GPS maps go, I'd get a unit that accepts SD card if buying new so you can swap cards out and keep them if you upgrade models down the road.
