In 2012 I started the generator every morning at 4:30 so the heat and lights would kick on. Most guys left between 5:00 and 5:30 in the morning.

I am looking at the Cabela's "Perfekt" 7" Hikers by Meindl. It is a little more than what i was wanting to spend but they have really good reviews and I want to get something that will really support my ankles because I have rolled/twisted ankles in the past and it isn't fun! Here is a link to them. Cabela's 7" Hikers

Pat, did you think about taping your ankles instead? Ive seen people with weak ankles wear boots and still twist their ankles...however im guessing that it's because they didnt tighten their boots enough to get the support.

legal shooting time is usually around 6:20am, and ending time around 7:30pm.
add in hiking & travel time, getting back late, cooking dinner, chug a beer, telling lies, then repacking backpack for next day...long days and short nights - just the way I love it in the mountains!

Well the Diet is working, but with all the work on the house and my job as well, my exercise time has dropped off. Don't get me wrong, I feel good, but at 42 going on 43, I'd like to feel better. May have to get a bike, and use that for going to work and back, either way I need to get back on schedule!!!! :/

I still say being mentally ready for an elk hunt is just as important (or more so) than being physically ready...and I know you have that part figured out...

Just realized - We're heading out 3 months from today!

I just heard Eva Shocke say, " If I had to choose just one animal to hunt my entire life, it would be elk." Man, is that girl ever spot on! If an elk hears you crashing through the woods in the dark, red light or not, it's gone!

Snow in the high country is starting to melt. I will be heading up to do some scouting as soon as I can.

It's gotten quiet in here! What's new?
I picked up my bear defense weapon! A glock 29 gen 4 10 mm. I told my wife I needed it but really just wanted a new gun!

Thanks! I'm enjoying it! Will probably get a 40 caliber barrel to drop in it to make shooting it more affordable. Cheap 10mm bullets are 75 cents a piece. ouch! Until then I'll buy lots of ammo!

Never need an excuse for a pistol, but you certainly won't need it where you are going.

Sweet gun though! I have the Glock 20 w a Sherpa holster that attaches to my pack waist belt... Amazing quick draw setup for an oh **** moment in the woods lol

Ya haha. not super cheap to shoot. debating on buying a 40 cal barrel for it for this reason. A barrel can be had for 115 bucks. it would basically be 2 pistols in 1.

I've never bothered with bear protection in the Unit we are hunting, no reason to change that this year either. Nice gun though :)

I too would hunt Elk as my game of choice for the rest of my life, you cannot beat the Buzz of being back in the Elk woods, you just cannot!!!
