I looked at both frames in person back in March. I liked the bikini better because of the minimalist feel to it. Feels like nothing is there. The duplex felt like a hunk of metal on my back. The nomad with the options I got will get me to almost 8000 ci. Plus it will convert to a small day pack. 4800 would be more than enough hunting from the truck/base camp.

Awesome, thanks! Ill be in touch with you soon as I have to get permission to leave and I can only leave during a certain period, so it may be a thurs-monday or something irregular similar to that.

I didn't realize it, but from my house to Boulder it's only 12 hours which is more than driveable but not sure if it will fit my timeframe as the Army will only let me drive 8 hours per day ha!

Hey guys, so as we do this equipment thing, any chance you guys can post up some brand names or model #s of the items you're bringing? Trying to get my stuff together, which is unfortunately detracting from my studies. But id like to make sure I have everything before I leave here in September and the time to start shopping cheap is now.

Im not worried about the bow and the components of a bow, but more of the other items. There are $50 gps, and $500, im assuming I just need the one which can mark my location and the base camp location which I believe a $50 one can do.

Also, anyone know if cell phone service will be spotty? I dont see a need to bring a GPS if ill have verizon coverage.

Here again are some of the items im planning on bringing/buying.

    Planning to buy
    Marmot 20 degree sleeping bag
Rangefinder - Leica RX-1000i with TBR and DNA
GPS - Garmin etrex? Legend? Clueless here
Broadheads - Grim Reaper? Fixed or Mechnical
Knife - Havalon...Piranta? Edge? which model. Also 20% sale here Dads and Grads Sale | 20% of Select Hunting Knives with Discount Code
Bow Case - Most likely SKB, but, it will depend on if I am flying or driving. I won't need a hard case if im driving.
Pack - Looking at Kifaru as they are having a sale, but also considering Tenzing since they are way cheaper.

    Own
    Binos - 8x32 Vortex HD
Gameplan Gamebat XL - For carrying
Boots - With primaloft, bought it for turkey hunting but that never happened.
Camo - Have Sitka gear, but I don't think it will be cold enough to wear the components I have - so I may be selling them brand new. I will most likely be picking up first lite for base and then Kryptek just because they look cool. I also have Multicam I may use depending on the weather.
Bow - Still need to practice, going to try and gain proficiency at 50 yards.
    Arrows - FMJ 340

Anything im missing in this list?

Remember that doesn't mean you will be comfortable at 0 degrees just that you wont die

Although, most days I have enough cell service to at least text those I'm riding with - I would not rely 100% on it solely for GPS...there are also a couple mountain sides where there is NO signal, and even a text times out and won't send. I will say even with no signal, it appears my phone GPS and maps continue to work and be accurate - but you need to "save" the map of the area first, since phone cannot update map with no signal.

My GPS is Garmin extrex20, I like it.

Sweet - that makes it pretty real!

    ditto!

I've always used plain old bag with blanket - but did have a few nights I was cold - so I picked up 0 degree mummy bag to...yeah, you can't be claustrophobic with these things:)

Very true - and all company's rate their bag different - only one way to find out:)
luckily...23 degrees is still the lowest we have recorded on thermometer yet - but with the arid mountain air - it felt more like a 45 degree morning hunting in IL...but it was calm that morning...

I'm surprised my wife hasn't killed me yet. She's heard way too much about this trip. Also encourages me to get everything I want for the trip. I'm kind of cheap so try to skimp on whatever I can and she keeps telling me to buy quality stuff. I guess she's a keeper!

We should hook up in iowa.....save us all some on gas and we are going through there anyway....there's only 2 of us in my truck and I'm still saving one seat for Tony incase he decides to go......if all 4 of us went there would be plenty of room for everyone to ride comfortably and fit the gear
