They never do. I tell my daughter to stop growing and she sticks her tongue out at me. Lol

    That's just awesome! Congrats!

Little girls sure are special...mine is six...I love her and her three brothers unconditionally, but definitely cherish that daddy/daughter bond.

    Have fun!

    Congrats Dan! She's priceless!

Yes, they do grow up too fast. I keep reminding my soon to be 14 y/o daughter, "I remember when your hinny could fit in one hand. I get the sneer, the tongue , and the "shut up dad!" I'm with Matt, unconditionally...but the father daughter relationship is precious.

thought I'd add another log to the fire here...

Took this pic real quick with my cell phone last year - I just love the view!
My buddy and I had just met up mid morning at a small clearing - we both chased the same bugle there...this bull bugled over a dozen times that morning. Never laid eyes on him, but by buddy did run into 8 elk that morning. I snapped this pick as we went separate ways. I ended up seeing multiple mule deer later that morning, one group being 3 bucks together. You never know what the days going to bring - stay positive - and keep after it...

At that time of year a Royal Coachman dry fly from size 14 to 18 will work good. Dry flies are your best choice. Small Mepps spinners work good for lures. Check the regulations for the streams and lakes you'll be fishing in....some places are flies and lures only (no bait); some places are also catch and release only.

At this point, I think I'm 90% ready gear wise for the trip. So far, I've bought:

    2 pairs of boots
    bugle call
    GPS
    backpack
    new arrows
    broadheads
    some new camo
    5 pin sight
    paracord
    sleeping bag
    mole skin for blisters

Im working on a small first aid kit, getting my knifes sharpened, etc. May upgrade a few things like binos. Already have a range finder. What am I forgetting?

Nicely done. I'm getting there as well.

    My list so far:
    New boots
Ordered binos last weekend. Went with vortex diamondback 10x42
    Borrowing backpack from boss
    Sleeping bag
    Paramore
    Borrowing gps
    Rangefinder

    Still need:
    Rain gear
    Couple extra sets of camo
    Arrows
    2 way radio
    New knife
    Cot

How important is bringing a bugle and cow call?

Also does anyone use a single pin sight? I have one on my bow and don't really want to buy a new one.

I have been using the same single pin for over 10 years. It was like pulling teeth to take it off my bow :)

I'm at 1 year with mine and I LOVE it. I just don't know if I want to use a 5 pin for this trip or not. What made you make the switch back?

The chance of having to shoot longer than I'm used to. I've always used a 1 pin set at 25 yards and knew where to aim for shorter and longer ranges, with in reason. I just didn't want to "guess" if my one opportunity was at 45-50 yards. I'm planning to switch back to one pin for whitetails when I get home.

You guys are on it. Pack, Boots, and GPS are the big ones...and radio could help...rest is up to preference.
Regarding calls - not necessary, but I'd suggest at least a cow call in the pack just in case - both for when not hearing/seeing anything...and also to use as last resort if cannot get close enough to some elk.

Confidence in your setup/shooting is the key...whatever works. I've always used a multipin sight and most likely always will. Even the slider type single pin is just one more thing to mess with in the heat of the moment...I just want to draw back, whisper a yardage in my head, and put that pin on the spot...
As far as the terrain I'm usually in, it's pretty thick - I'd guess close shot just as likely as further shot.

Craving me some mountains right now...

I am too! I love the mountains. Can't believe that I will finally have a bow in hand chasing elk in them!
