Well I just picked up a pair of Merrell Phaser Peaks. I couldn't decided between these and the moabs, but went with these due to them being a little taller at the ankle. Might were them on the job tomorrow to break them in and make sure they are as comfortable as I think they are.

Trout. Power bait, flies, worms, lures, etc. I have never used flies but lots of people do

Ive never fly fished either. I just use a little trout pole with power bait or salmon eggs. The closest ive come to fly fishing was getting mad and throwing my pole in the water

They had a 20% off sale at the local fly shop so I got myself one. I'm gonna practice on pan fish and smallies here so I know what i am doing when I head out there. I was wondering about any certain color u guys use out there so if I have a chance to get out I can catch some dinner.

Maybe Will can chime in on that I haven't fished in the mountains much.

Fishing is going to be 3rd string behind elk and mule deer. But I still wouldn't mind to catch something. We were thinking of spending a few days spike camping further from camp, do many of the other guys spike camp or does everyone come back every night?

No experience here with fishing in CO...but I do know I could waste a whole other week just fishing/hiking/sightseeing...never enough time for me out there. I do have a good story I can retell at camp about New Zealander Scottie bowfishing for trout:)

So far, I believe all hunters have returned to camp each night, I know I always have. Last year Aussie John was all set to spike out one night in an area he liked, but I believe the rain changed those plans. I may bring along just enough kit in case I would want to give it a go - but it would be out of total desperation if I can't find any elk - I'd much rather meet the crew back at camp for a hot meal, rum&coke, and a cot!

I see that nearly all of the CO got nailed with snow on Mothers Day...summer still a long ways away in some parts...

For elk, in my experience, fixed blade broadheads penetrate better, especially on longer shots. I use Muzzys, FWIW.

I think my wife is already tired of hearing me talk about this lol. Question for you guys that have been on this hunt before. Do I need a GPS or will we be hunting in groups? Pardon my stupid questions, as I'm sure it won't be the last. This is a whole new type of adventure for a flatlander from corn country.

We usually have a couple guys together in groups if they choose to hunt together. A GPS is not a must but it is very nice to have as its easy to get lost in the mountains especially when its dark. I used a GPS on my phone and it ended up being wrong coming off the mountains in our 2012 camp at night and it sucked. I highly recommend a GPS. I'm buying one for this year as I want to explore some new areas. I like to mark where camp is located, where the vehicle is parked and any wallows or down game. Would be easier to radio back to camp with a GPS coordinates if you get an elk down so its easier and faster for us to find you and help pack out so the meat doesn't spoil

If you have a radio bring it dont make a special trip to buy one. We have a few extras. Simple two way radios are pretty cheap. Mine are cobra brand
