Right?! Twenty something's wishing they had done it sooner lol I guess we can all say that! At 24 all my extra income was spent chasing tail, but they weren't on deer.

Scott - you know I'm getting excited when I dragged my butt off the couch at 10 last night for a 5 mile run outside:)
I'd be happy just to get my Dad an opportunity this year...but if the good Lord thinks we should both get an opportunity, I'll be ready.

Dan - Roadtrip to Oregon for Roosies sounds like an adventure - hope it works out for you!

Damn Greg - we are the old guys:) I'll be 38 in Oct...

That did make me smile - starting much earlier would have meant skipping high school:)
In my 20's - if I had extra coin I upgraded to Keystone Light on Friday nights:)

First archery elk trip for me was in 2012 at the ripe ol age of 51!
I leave in under 3 weeks for trip #3 at age 54 and I feel like a little kid at Christmas!
    I'll be 55 in January.

On a side note, what are you guys wearing as an outer shell/insulation for elk hunting?

I plan on it being chilly during the desert mornings while glassing in December, and I don't really have any type of puffy or insulation piece that I feel would be serviceable for a week long hunt in the Arizona desert. Figure like most gear, it may be a buy once, cry once type thing, as I could get several years out of it.

Matt I hope I can get it to work out! I have family and friends that live in western Oregon. My dads friend keeps texting me pictures of big bulls laying in his churches lawn and in people's yards. I need to go!

Merino is where it's at for a base layer. I'm using KUIU 145 weight tops on my September Idaho elk hunt.
As a chill eliminator I will use the KUIU Guide DCS vest when hiking, usually in the early morning hours or evenings. http://store.kuiu.com/guide-dcs-vest-p/30011.htm
I have an inexpensive poofy that I'll pack for times when we're sitting on the tops glassing, I also carry a hooded fleece which, combined with the vest is typically enough.

What are expected low temps that time of year where you'll be?

I have threatened to turn them into tacos many times. They are both amusing and incredibly annoying if they want to be.

    [IMG] tempting..
