ok gents......after a little back and forth with colby some talks at home and working everything out it is now official.....I WILL BE IN ELK CAMP THIS YEAR!!!!.....a buddy will be joining me and we couldn't be more excited as this is a big bucket list item for us....we are total newbs at this and have no clue where to even start really but colby has us reassured that if we are going to go for the first time that this is a great camp to do it in.....my grandfather in law may be joining us to sit in at camp as he cannot pull his bow back nor does he think he can handle the terrain but he would love to be there for the experience and to help out all the same....looks like we will be driving the 26 hours one way out there and meeting up with you guys hopefully on the 20th....i'll be checking in as time goes on and i'm sure you'll get some more questions along the way colby.....anyway i just wanted to say thank you to will and colby for all your help so for and for putting this on....i'm not sure if i'm more excited to climb some mountains or to share a few beers with some of you all.....190 days and counting fellas....COLORADO HERE WE COME!
GREAT! Good to hear your going to make it. Can't wait to meet ya and crack some beers. I still believe this is the best way to get into elk hunting. You don't have to pay $3000-$12,000 for a guided hunt where somebody holds your hand up and down the mountain, tells you when to shoot, skins your elk, packs it out, and puts you up at the Hilton. With this alls you have to worry about is your personal gear. You can get as much help as you need but still have the satisfaction of doing it yourself. You get an elk down radio camp and we will get you some help. Don't know the moutains go along with somebody that has been there and knows the area. You really can't beat it. Will loves hunting and loves getting people involved. I know you have to have some anxiety as to the unknown but you won't get over that until you do it and then it will be more excitement than anxiety. Glad your going to join us.
Oh the wife reminded me its time to get the bows out and start shooting. I recently got us a place to archery hunt spring turkey. She may even join us in elk camp if she isn't pregnant. We shall see. I.may be in the best shape of my life come elk season. If she is 8-9 months bred ya'll better sleep on your backs lol Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
As of right now my elk hunting chances are really slim. I have a very good chance at being promoted, but found out that i would have to take about an $8000 pay cut. Not thrilled with that so I will probably turn it down if it is offered to me. I was blown away when I found out. I am paid based off of commission so that is their reasoning to paying the training directors less? Also was told that my college degree means squat within the company. I worked my butt off for that degree and it was a slap in the face to say the least. All hope is not lost though fellas. Someone I went to school with and also delivered to her store got a new job with a good company and told me about an amazing opportunity. So I have spent the last hour updating my resume and apply for a territory management position. Wasnt looking at switching employers but when I busted my arse off for a degree, I wasnt planning on sitting on it. I want to use what I went to school for. Rant over.... Wish me luck and I hope I have the opportunity to crack a few cold ones in some of the most beautiful country there is. P.S. You guys are killing me with those videos and pictures since I am still unsure if I will be able to pull it off.
Dan I wish you all the luck in the world....tough situation to be in but maybe it's an open door for the better...i hope you can pull off the trip and everything works out.....keep looking forward brother! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
I feel the same way as you that maybe I am being told I have an open door in front of me. We will see. If I can't make it this year, there is always 2016 but that's way too far out. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
Colby - it was a ghost town at our spot last year - the "neighbors" were Wills small camp, otherwise just a camp or two the first weekend there...then no one. Again, multiple small tent camps up high first weekend, but were all locals that went home for workweek. Sweet! The knowledge and confidence gained that first year are huge, Will truly opens the doors to West for so many who have only been dreaming of it. Agreed - no easier or cheaper way to get started in Elk/Mountain hunting...not to mention the fun of a big camp, new friends, and the shared knowledge by all. The first time you get far enough away from the roads, and just feel the silence, and smells of the pine...makes it all worth it. At least you warned us Dan - Best of Luck! Might sound funny...but Elk hunting has truly motivated me personally in so many ways...as a husband, dad, at work...I work harder than ever to make things right just to keep these hunting daydreams alive... ...well...back to work
Dan- hope everything works out for you buddy. Hang in there. It does sound like maybe some new doors being opened for you. If not this year there is always 2016 and that will give you time to save a little each month for elk hunting. Keep your head up and let us know how it turns out. Best of luck to you with your job.
Actually just got a call 30 minutes ago wanting me to come in for an interview. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
If you walk into the interview and there's an elk painting on the wall...it was meant to be Good Luck!
Ya I was shocked. It's my first interview for a job that requires my degree. Kind of nervous. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
