I'm really gonna try to make it out there to meet everyone and hopefully put something on the ground. I lived in Columbus oh for 10 years while going to college also my mother's side of the family is from Columbus. I know the Portsmouth area really well. Did alot of rifle hunting and fishing down there and also have some hunting buddies from Portsmouth. I am a firefighter in CA during the fire season (June - October) and hopefully if we don't have a bad fire year this year I'll be coming back to Columbus the first week of Nov. So the dates would work out for me. Hopefully everything works out because this is the kind of outing I was just wishing for. I have been spending a lot of time on the bowhunting.com threads and it would be really cool to do some hunting and relaxing in the woods with the people who we type back amd forth so much too. Lol Definitely will be bookmarking this thread and will keep youse posted on my attendance. Really excited!! By the way I'm Mike or Mikey.
Would love to come up again guys... Don't know if it will happen, but If I can, I will! I had an absolute blast last year. But this year... a Rat head buck WILL get his antlers stomped into the ground. Might bring the wife to be my camera woman.
Aaron that would be really cool if your wife came and you killed something day 1.....you could kill a rat head buck, stomps it's antlers into the ground, and then be camp cook for the rest of the week with those cool knives!
Now that I got my union to fight with HR and get me my vacation and sick days back from this year I might have some time to take off and hoping to make this now!!! Sounds like it will be a great time!
If you decide on the south end, there is a few spots I know of that I've personally killed deer right outside of Portsmouth. There is more water there and that's makes me think more water = more deer... Honestly speaking I've never deer hunted anywhere else in Ohio other than the south end of wayne. Even though I would really like to see another area I've never seen before. I'm adventureous!
Spoke with a local guy here on Saturday. He and some other guys made a trip up to Wayne last year the first week of November and it was crowded. They ended up driving an extra hour from the cabin they rented to hunt Zaleski. 3 of the 4 killed decent bucks.
Matt, nothing is set in stone. If we all come to the conclusion the Wayne is crowded and we can't get off the beaten path without encountering a lot of hunters, then we can change where we hunt...no problem.
