We just recently purchased the 2013 model of the Red 40. When the camera is set on 12 MP some pics are really dark even though it is the middle of the day. Then at night some pics are over exposed. I was wondering if this is a filter problem and how common is it? We have contacted Covert and they said to try it on 8 MP and they would go from there.

They perhaps hope to know if it occurs with 8mp because if so perhaps it is something that will need adjusted by them, if it doesn't persist maybe it is merely a setting which they can explain. No clue as our Red40 and all the other Covert army of cams have went off without a hitch so far...good luck, rest easy knowing Covert's CS is great! Keep in touch and do as they say and they'll treat ya right. (Just don't get that Pat guy...heard he's a real jerk sometimes haha! :poke: )

We haven't switched it to the 8MP setting yet.

I had similar problem once and I forgot to remove the clear plastic from the sensors on the front. DUH!! I felt like an idiot! I hope you get it resolved soon. They have Amazing Customer Service! I love the Red40 the most of all the Covert Cameras.

Not trying to offend with this question but is the camera shooting from a dark place into bright sunlight? If it is, this can cause the problem you are describing.

No it is in the woods just off a corn field. It is facing N so the sun won't ever interfere with it either.

my 2013 red40 does this at times too. it is shooting into the shadow/tree line.

I will have to double check the plastic film, I thought it was just on the inside screen.

really though if it was a "much needed" picture, I can just edit it and adjust the exposure to make it look normal.

Try setting the flash range from 12/40 to 6/20, its under the SYS tab.
