Not going to put in corn this late, I have 3 plots - no need for anything else. Plot 2 is almost completely concealed/covered by trees not really in need of cover - also larger corn stands in the area hold the deer. Many studies show that deer prefer beans over corn when given the choice between the two.

Plot #1 has Landino Clover in it.

I planted turnips and Evolved Harvest Shot Plot - barracis mix last year. The rape and such was hit pretty hard in November. The turnips never really got much play. Won't be planting turnips anytime soon.

Week 4 food plot update. Indiana - like most of the country has been awfully dry this month and my plots might be starting to struggle a little bit.

I took it upon myself to gas up the generator and burrow a pump to pump water from the creek into my food plots. After 4 hours of work I realize it was just a temporary bandaid. Here are some photos of the progress:

Plot #1: lacking growth - need to spot seed with something next week.

Plot #2: The areas that get shade are in the best shape, this plot is going to be awesome if we can get a few showers this week.

Plot #3: beans are filling in nice and the plot saver has done it's job. I re-applyed PS this week and also put some more Milorganite out to keep the deer off for atleast the next 2 weeks. The middle of September I will take down the stakes and let them have at it.

    Week 5 Food Plot Update.

Plot #1 - Starting to show some growth and some weeds. The local co-op did me no favors with this seed mix. The results of this plot are dissapointing.

Plot #2 - this plot, protected by shade and with drought tollerant Cow Peas is in awfully good shape, the turkey still love this plot!

    Plot #2 Cont.

Plot #3 - Beans are starting to look pretty nice. A couple areas that are lacking, i've tried to spot seed those areas and haven't had much luck establishing anything with the dry weather we've had.!

Thanks Covy, I hope so man! Good luck to you also.

I actually spot spread some Evolved Shot Plot today and test plotted a 4th "small" plot to see if I get decent results. We got a lot of rain last night and a chance of some tonight so I decided to to till it up.

I have planted the same custom mix from the feedmill@40 cents/lb. for 15 years on 12 total acres, bordering 140 acres of beans/corn.
70/5/4 lbs. of winter rye/rape/ptt/acre on 8/1-10. Mow,till 5/1, repeat. White clover is great for a 3 year lot as well, mow it in May.

    Week 6 Food Plot Update

    Plot #1

Plot #2 - Decided to take down the Plot Saver on this plot to make sure I keep deer of plot 3 as my beans are not handling the drought out well as the Cow Peas have. This plot is in fantastic shape considering the weather we have had.

    Plot #2 Continued

Plot 3. Beans have started to canopy a little bit. Still not seeing much in the way of blooming. I'd be surprised at this point if the plants produce any beans. That said, I'd think if we can get a few rains here in the next couple weeks we might be sitting pretty come Oct. 1.

I am going to remove the plot saver a few days before the Oct. 1 season opener, not in any real hurry to open it up for public feeding!!

Last update for 2013. September 28.

Plot 1. Complete loss, nothing to show.

Plot 2. I think i have more deer bedding in this plot than feeding in it at this point. I fully expect them to hammer it at some point.

Plot 3. Finally took down the plot saver, might not take them long to tear up this little plot, good thing I have next week off!

You can see where they have already started to
    graze the unprotected areas.
