I'm going to throw up. I just shot under the biggest buck I've ever got drawn back on. He came out about 10:55, stood there for a minute and started to head away. I grunted and he stopped, grunted again and he turns. This whole time he's behind some shrubs/bushes. Standing there looking my way, but not at me. He starts to go back to where he came out, I draw, he steps in the open perfectly broadside. I meh him and he stops, settle my pin 1/3 way up. Whiff and a miss, watched the arrow go 3" under his chest. Unfreaking believable, no doubt in my mind he would push 160. I'm in a state of disbelief, yet I seen it. Couldn't find my arrow, has a lighted nock so I'll retrieve it after sunset hopefully.
Oh man sorry to hear that. Ouch that's gotta sting. Well at least is was a clean miss. Would be worse to hit him bad and not find him that's for sure. Still heart wrenching though
He was about 36 yards. He was elevated so we were about same height, I'll try to take a cell pic. The green shrub in center with dead looking tree behind it, he was in front of it facing photo left. If it were flat surface he'd actually be about waist high. His reaction was basically an OH $&@!?, he was looking directly my way after I mehed him. Aimed a bit low thinking he would crouch but he didn't. I probably wasn't as steady as I thought as well. He bolted into the woods, as you can see it is thick!! Couldn't get a visual on him. I know it was a clean miss though. Only reason I am still on stand is due to the rut. Only two things in these woods know what just happened. Me and him, I know I won't see him again, I keep watching though, but there's still plenty of day and deer left. I'm just wondering what they do after something like this. Bed down for awhile? Keep cruising? I know a hot doe would erase his memory, he looked to be heading to scent check a bedding area, came from just east of down wind with south winds.
Well im all set up. Hopefully a nice buck come by tonight im ready to put down my first buck! Sent from my HTC Hero S
Very sorry cls. Seems things just start looking up and then we don't git-r-done. Stay after it and maybe you'll get another chance. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
For sure, 3 hours later and I'm more concerned with finding that $30 arrow. Up until then it was my lucky arrow. Been through 4 deer and now under another. Hard not to keep replaying it, but it's al a learning experience. Big question is did I taint the area when I went to search for the arrow and make sure there was no hair. The does usually start moving through over the next 45 minutes or so.
My opinion is that since they are beginning to chase, it probably wouldn't make that much difference. Hope you find that arrow and put it through another deer. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Alright all ready to walk in. 35° and not windy should be a good day. Sometimes my phone doesn't get good reception when in there. Good luck everyone heading out in the woods today, be safe.
New stand, down in the bottoms now. Hope I don't regret it, letting my rut stand settle for at least the morning. I've seen some big bucks from here and I can see a lot of deer but shot ops are hard to get. Good luck everyone
In a tree trying to stay awake. Had a monster run out in front of the truck this morning chasing a doe. Couple seconds later and I would be holding some bone. I think I have a deer bedded to my left about 120 yds my binos are in my pack behind me and I don't wanna move. Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
First sighting of the day, decent buck cruising. Thought it was a turkey, came in so fast I nearly dropped my beer.
