Good morning and good luck to anyone in the woods this morning. Be safe. I wont be able to get back out till tomorrow evening... had a big cow of a doe standing in the middle of my street this morning when I left for work just teasing me. Haha.
Out on the reservoir ...picked out a new spot via topo last night thought it was gonna be a good morning...come to find out my mile + walk was useless it was to thick. Back tracked now I am on the edge of a pine thicket. Hopes aren't high but I am in a tree so I'm happy Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
1st public land hunt if the year, theres a little bit of a difference in a 15 from truck to sitting in stand than 1.5 + mile hike. But feels good to be back in here.
Back in the same tree I was in yesterday. Tomorrow the temp is dropping good so leaving the better spot for then.
Live from the ground again unfortunately. Couldn't find my carabiner to connect my harness to the safety rope. So I'm set up on the opposite side of the creek from last Saturday when I had the doe and two fawns at 40yds. Wasn't expecting deer to be on their feet, or I bumped her up, but as I got to the cut curb field I looked across the CRP field and was a doe fawn standing at the tree line staring at me. We stared each other doe for 2-3 minutes before I caved and started walking. She darted into the woods. We'll see what happens, confidence isn't great.
Blind ...I have really good success doing it today was the first time this yr I have done it. It was windy this morning so I hot a little agressive with it. It's mostly smaller bucks that come in out of curiosity I presume ...gonna be a shooter one of these times. Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
Ended up seeing a spike an 2 does this morning. Got down round 9 to do a little scouting found a very fresh rub line 100+ yds long most rubs were on both sides of the tree. I left the ole boy one of these fresh with some tinks and my personal recipe Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
Getting acclimated to the landscape, ladder stand 15yds to my east. Luckily it's empty. There's an old fence line right behind it. I'll probably move should he show up, had I seem it when I first got here I'd have moved back across the creek. Trials and tribulations of public land I guess.
Last time I saw a rubline like this @ this place this guy showed up Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
Finally back in the stand again, it's been a while unfortunately. Got a slight chance of rain this afternoon, with some rain/storms coming tomorrow and friday. The skies are already darkening, and the wind is picking up a bit. Hopefully a monster doe walks by me to the bean field. They cut two laps around the field yesterday.
Wind just died down, can't help but think I'm on the wrong side of the creek. Too late to move, I'll know within an hour I guess.
In the blind I missed from last night brought a friend who has never been deer hunting before so it could be interesting. Sent from iPhone
